Computer help please

We bought a new computer, this replaces our main one in the house. The kids computers used to be able to print through the network through the main computer. Now, with the new one we can't. If you go into network connections it doesn't even see the new main computer.
We've messed around with settings but still nothing.
Does anyone have any insight? It drives me crazy that I can't print from a remote computer anymore.

It might be because of XP SP2's firewall. It is enabled by default. The following link shows how to enable file and print sharing through the firewall:

(on the last picture in the link, just select the "My Network (Subnet) Only" radio button instead of selecting "Custom List")

(BTW -- this was typed by my DH. I'm in NO WAY this smart! He's a full time system admin for MA Army National Guard. Let me know if he got it right. )

I checked and all those settings were where they needed to be. For some reason when I look at network places it shows the computer, but not the printer attached to it.
