I do not know tons about the computer so if this can be done I need it explained as simply as possible.

I scanned a document(it is a chart for recording food temps). It is on pdf and I need to make some changes to it. I was trying to copy and paste it to Word but it will not allow me to highlight it in order to copy and paste and all the things up at the top(file, edit, view, etc) will not allow me to either make changes or copy and paste for this document. I was really hoping to be able to get it to Word so I could make these changes in same font that has already been used. I know I can just white it out and write it in but I was hoping for something more professional. Can anyone help?

You need Adobe Acrobat. And depending how it was scanned it may save the text as an image which would not be editable. I can give it a try if you like but you would have to e-mail me the file. If you'd like me to try PM me.

You need Adobe Acrobat Professional, not Reader (just to clarify the above poster :thumbsup2 ). It is really expensive. You can also see if your scanner has OCR software - that will give you some limited editing ability.

I know this is not much help - hopefully you can send the file to the poster above that offered to help!

If you have a photo editting program you could save it as a jpeg picture file. When you open the picture, you can use the font tool in your editting program to place type into your picture.

Or instead of whiting it out and writing it in by hand. You can type up the sections you need, print the paper, & cut out the text & glue it where you want. Not the greatest idea, but at least it could be typed in the same font as your document.

As for Adobe Reader, I have 6.0 and there is a text tool button that does let me highlight & copy text from the pdf documents then open up another word processing program & paste the text into the new document. You can download Adobe Reader 6.0 online for free.

Thanks y'all. I think it might be a lost cause but I will try some of the other ideas tomorrow. I sent it to my own email and it still could not be edited(it is treating it like it is a picture). Oh well..I will print these instructions and see what I can work out. I will probably just do the old white out and write it in!!! It's not like the whole world will see it but I get a little OCD on stuff like this!! Thanks for your help!!! I really appreciate it.

You can use the "select" tool from within Acrobat reader to cut-n-paste from the PDF to an imaging program. You can then "erase" old text and replace it with new text using the text tool. Not the best solution but if it's just one or two PDFs, it's cheaper than buying the full Acrobat program.

It sounds as though you scanned it as an image. You're never going to be able to edit it that way. If you scan it as text using OCR software you can edit it in Word or Acrobat (full version, not Reader) and that will be a good thing, be cause most OCR software makes a hash of converting text so you'll have corrections to make.

Oh, one more thing to try:
Bring up the document on your computer screen. Press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard. Open up your photo editting program. Paste it as a new picture. You will see a screenshot of everything that was on your monitor, so you will have to crop out the toolbar, etc. Scroll up the document to capture the parts that didn't show on screen. Repeat above. Paste the sections of the document together into one picture. Then use the font tool in your photo editting program to place type into your picture.
