Computer fn key...why do i have to hold it down....

ANYone know how to fix this i have so much computer work to do tonight. i can't hold the fn key down all night..thanks

I have a gateway laptop....and in the bottom left corner is the 'fn' key....it the top right corner is the scroll key...under the word 'scroll' is a little lock symbol. for me to correct that, I would have to press the 'fn' key and the lock symbol at the same time.

Assuming fn = function key.
Let me google it.

OK, before I do that, I see previous reply. Is this a laptop or a desktop? I was going to suggest unplugging the keyboard & plugging it back in....but.....

This is a new laptop and it was the scroll lock key and number lock key that were on. I'm typing fine now...thanks so much

If this is a laptop, you may have num lock turned on. Do you have blue numbers on some of the keys on the right side of the keyboard? Some keyboards without a 10-key on the side have this "feature".

Try turning num lock off and see if it helps!
