We are moving and will have a different Internet provider, will I lose any emails I currently have in my inbox/drafts, etc. and/or my address book when we switch over or are they considered "saved" once they are in there no matter who your internet provider is?

Is there anything I should do to the computer before we move and switch????

No, you won't lose any IF they are stored on your computer and not online (web email).

There are a number of services that will allow you to forward email from your old address (when your ISP closes your account unless they recycle the email address). A quick google search brings up a few. I don't know anything more about it than that.

If you're using Microsoft Outlook or some similar email software resident on your computer anything in you inbox, drafts, etc will stay there.

The answer most likely is that you will not lose those emails unless you actually delete them.

When we switched from AOL to our local phone co. (FROM DIAL UP TO HS)They told me I wouldn't loose anything ... so after the switch I found out how wrong they really were! I lost everything including the address book (all of which I had copies of) stored on MY computer!I called them to inquire about this and they told me that only AOL can open these files whether they were stored on them or on my own computer ! What a job a had starting over from scratch!

It depends. If you use an email client like Gmail or yahoo or hotmail etc, then you won't. You can access those from anywhere. But I had AOL before switching to high speed a few years ago, and I couldn't access my email or address book after the switch because I had cancelled my account for the switch.

I don't have AOL, our internet now is through our cable company and the new internet will be through a different cable company but not AOL. Should I save them if I need them and if so, where? Word? My Documents?

You will lose your internet access from the old cable co as soon as the disconnect is done. If you have outlook or a program on your computer, those will stay since they are not "on the net." But yes, you WILL lose the internet email account and all of the email.

What do you use to access email?

I knew that part I just wasn't sure what happened to the emails in my inbox. I have outlook. This is the first time we have moved and switched internet providers since we got a computer.

OK then since your outlook is a program on your hard drive, ALL mail will stay there. Sent, inbox and any other folders you have :)
