I have recently been having a alarm on my hard drive and computer keeps restarting within 1/2 hour of use. It was driving me mad...
Rang pc world as i brought a extra 4 year warranty. They could only help me if they heard the alarm. I dont have cordless phones and computer is upstairs when i said this they said "we cant help you". I was livid and put phone down.
Went on a few computer forum sites to find help, after reading replys i was still none the wiser until a knight in shinning amour appeared in a private message.
my computer was over heating, which was cause it to shut down. The shut down was a early warning, then when it reaches boiling it sounds a alarm and shuts down till it cools. He advised me to take of side panels and clean fan inside. I was in shock he was asking someone who cant even change a plug to take apart my computer. i was gonna give it a go.
OH MY GOD
The inside of my computer was glowing i could touch the casing and the dust well, my mom would be ashamed of me. I always keep computer dust free and i was amazed at the amount of dust that gets inside!!!! you couldnt see colour of wires.
please everyone be aware of the dust before your computer starts acting strange.. :thumbsup2

Good grief! I dread to think how much dust is in mine! Glad you managed to get some help yourslf and well done :thumbsup2

Keeping the insides clean is essential to keep them running cool. Use a kiddies paint brush with the hoover on (to stop it settling) to get dust easily off the fan blades and in corners.

I wouldn't advise putting a hover nozzle inside a PC case! Personally, I wait for a sunny day and take my machines (I have 3) outside and strip them down on the patio table. I then use a can of compressed air to blow all the dust & muck off the components and use a duster to clean the fans.

I'd recommend that every PC is "spring cleaned" at least once a year as they really are dust magnets.

I just make sure I upgrade frequently enough to stop dust becoming a problem.
Otherwise I just stick a vac tube on the back of the fan grills.

thanks for advice they dont say when you buy them that you need to clean them. i was scared to even open case. honestly i am really house proud and dust every day. i cant believe there was that much in.i am still dusting my bedroom where i took the cover off cause dust still settling. i have had computer on now since 7.30am this morning and no alarm.......

(cured i hope). again thanks for advice.

The fan on our pc keeps failing to start and smells like burning so we give it a poke. I shall take a look for dust

Andru,

Dont mean placing it near the parts, it just takes the dust out the air. Another idea for removing dust from the heatsink corners etc is get a cycle pump and blow air in there. Comes out a treat.

I didn't realise that I needed to do this :confused3
