HH is limited with it's national ISP local connection numbers.
I have a netzero account that works very well at most places we stay. There are many good access numbers in Orlando and we've found them in most other spots where we travel. Very convenient.
We have found a few spots with no netzero access and, for those occasions, I use BudgetDialup- that has access thru a 1-800 #. You can prepay for time used and easily renew extra minutes. Cost is $19.95 for 60 hours using their local access numbers. For areas without local access, the 1-800 number gets you 6 hours for that same price. Not bad for checking email, but a little expensive for any serious surfing.
There are no local access numbers for either netzero or budget here at HH. They do have local earthlink and AOL access and last year I used a free trial version of AOL, but got months of annoying emails and pop-ups after cancelling the free trial.
After using 3 hours of my Budget dialup connection last night and this morning, I called the local phone company (Hargray) and found that they offer a "Visitor's account"- at $15 per week for unlimited access (...and there are several other local net providers I'm sure could have helped). I'm now at 56K (although usable speed is more like 38K) and have no time restrictions. I do pay .35 for each connection (.75 for non-members at the resort- just like at WDW).
I did the same thing at a timeshare in Wisconsin- where I just bought a month's service and set up the dialup service for the week- that cost $20.
If you have AOL or earthlink, you're all set with local access here, but if you need connection thru most other services, you may be out of luck. In addition, make sure you are using a local connection, since any call off the island is long distance and subject to the long distance hotel surcharge.
If you have a wireless modem and connect thru a cell phone, you're all set- cell phones do seem to work well here.
Just a suggestion.
