Compression Stockings

Hello --

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I thought it would be worth a try.....

I started wearing high-level compression stockings (foot to knee) this past year. I am preparing to travel (to WDW) for the first time since getting these. As those of you who wear them know, these need to be washed daily. Is there a trick to drying them quickly? It will likely be after 10 when I take them off in the evening and I will be putting them on as early as 6am the next day, given our schedule. Putting them on while they are wet is EXTREMELY uncomfortable for me.

I know that I can wash them in a washing machine, but that's not something I plan on doing nightly. I'm looking for that simple daily solution.

I would probably get a second pair and alternate each day.

If that's not possible, hang them over the shower rod to dry and if they're still damp in the morning take a hair dryer to them to finish the job.

I'd also recommend a second pair to alternate. They will not dry overnight. I wear 40-50mg compressions and they are usually still damp when I wake up if I don't wash them until 10PM.

Unfortunately, a second pair isn't available to me. These are custom made and insurance won't pay for new ones until June 2016 and out of pocket is just simply NOT an option. My husband suggested a salad spinner since it does the same basic job as the spin cycle in the washing machine, just not as powerful. We're going to take a dry run at it this weekend to see if that will help....I'll hand wash them around 10:00, use the salad spinner (and then THOROUGHLY clean the spinner [LOL]), hang them overnight as I usually do and then put them on when I'm ready in the morning. It'll probably be later than 6am, but it will at least give us an idea. I can handle the slightly damp. It's the wet that will drive me crazy.

I agree with the above about a second pair. I know they're pricey, I wear them every day, myself, and I work for a vascular surgeons' group. They last longer if they're hand washed and air-dried. Heat will break down the compression faster, and they should be replaced every few months anyhow.

bring close pins to hang them in the bathroom and the salad spinner is a great idea if you need to you can use a hair drier after the salad spinner and when you get up

My husband wears these as well. When we are at Disney, he does hand wash them every nite. If they are not dry in the morning when we are ready to leave for the day, we bring them with us and he puts them on after they've dried. I pin them on my backpack and the florida heat dries them very quickly. PS - I pin them in such a way that you cant really tell what they are - lol!!

You beat me to it!

After you've washed them and squeezed out as much water as you can, lay them out on a bath towel. Roll up the towel into a log and then walk all up and down on it a few times. Repeat with another towel. They'll be just damp when you go to hang them up.

Save the salad spinner for your lettuce.

Paper towels work even better than terry towels. Put a few down in each stocking and wrap stockings in some more. SQUEEZE! The paper towels can be laid out to dry (if you're into recycling) and then used again the next night.

I don't know if you have time but maybe get the boot dryers (stand type) that they use up north during the winter.. This would not stretch them out of shape and would allow air to flow freely through them. (or even make your own out of pvc pipe drilled with holes)

1) Every resort has washer/dryer facilities.
2) Although inconvenient, using these nightly is probably your only firm choice.
3) With the Florida humidity and/or room air conditioning, they very well might not dry out overnight on their own.
