Hi,

We will be staying at one of the DVC resorts on our next visit and I have a question regarding the use of complimentary wheelchairs at the resorts. My mother will be with us and will need to have the use of a wheelchair. A couple of years ago we stayed at POFQ and during our stay she was given the use of a complimentary wheelchair at the resort. We were only using the chair at the resort as we had pre paid to hire a wheelchair for use in the theme parks. Near the end of our stay, a cast member at the resort informed us that we could have used the resort wheelchair for the duration of our stay including taking it into the theme parks.

Has anyone had experience of this and does this information sound correct?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

WDW resorts no longer offer complimentary wheelchairs. Post #2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread lists some off-site vendors, both featured (who can deliver through Bell Services) and non-featured (who will meet you in person). You will have use of the wheelchair at the resort and in the parks, as well as Disney Springs or anywhere else you go.

Now the only time a guest is offered a WC at the resort is in an emergency situation and a CM will be staying with said wheelchair as well. Resorts only have 1 or maybe 2 at most now. So they must keep them for absolutely emergent situations.
It's best to look at renting one from an offsite source so yiu will have it all of the time.
Also, not sure where you live (in the U.S. or not) but many local Lions clubs have medical equipment that you can borrow short term (some may require medical documentation, but not all do). If you are flying, medical equipment flies "free". Just another alternative, if you can make it work.

Yes each resort has a wheel chair or two for ememergancy the CM will walk you to your room or pick you up in the wheel chair ( so if you get hurt at the park and need a wheel chair while you wait for the vender to bring you an wheel chair or ECV or you are going to the ER ugent care they will let you use it) I would just plane on getting a wheel chair from a vender and this way you have it for your stay

I wouldn't count on being able to use a hotel's WC while waiting for delivery from a rental company. Since most Hotels only have one (some have 2, but I wouldn't count on them having 2), they are strictly reserving it for use such as when a guest gets hurt at the hotel or has a medical emergency and needs to get from point A to point B within the resort, etc.... They don't let anyone borrow them now. A CM stays with the WC, so you can use it for a brief period to get from point A to point B...
They would probably let you use it to get to your room or wherever you wanted to wait, but I wouldn't count on getting to borrow it until your WC is delivered. They never know when it will be needed by another guest, so they are very careful with how long someone has it...hence the using it to get from point A to point B and with the supervision of a CM.

Yes on one of my trips I got hurt I use a wheel chair from the park to the hotel we told the drive I would need help getting to my room I guess the driver called someone when I got to the hotel a CM was waiting for me with a wheel chair the CM took me to my room my friend was with me and we got a wheel chair from a vender the CM said they might be able to come and get me when the wheel chair showed up they were able to and I got to go back to the park after resting some in the room 2 days latter I was fine

You can buy a portable travel wheelchair for under $200. Depending on the length of your stay it could practically pay for itself. You would also have one thereafter at no charge; since, it's your wheelchair.

When I first needed a wheelchair I bought a brand new manual chair at resale shop for $100.

Local churches and Masonic organizations may have equipment that you can borrow and return as well.
