My DD came home the other day and said a male friend of hers had made a comment about me. He said "Your Mom looks like a Barbie doll". Now keep in mind that I am nothing like a barbie ( I am a redhead, 5'6" and a size 12).

My question is...should I take that as a compliment (he thought I was purty) or was it a insult (like he thought I was plastic) :confused3

Being that I did not hear for myself, I don't know what kind of tone it was said in.

I guess I shouldn't care.....

What would you all take it as???

well the first question would be ... how old is he ? if he was young, I'd say it is a compliment because he wouldn't really know what "plastic" means..

I don't know. If my DD's friend calls me a barbie doll, I may get weird out. Maybe because I am a guy :)

I would take it as a compliment-maybe he sees you as always perfectly made up and dressed, like Barbie? :confused3

I always thought Barbie was suppose to be thought as the perfect woman, so I would take it as a compliment.

I'm indifferent what I would think. I would need to know more information, but my gut immediately says insult.

Around my neck of the woods here, when you call somebody a Barbie doll it's because they are so obsessed with how they look that they always have to look perfect like a Barbie doll - or I guess you could also call these type of people "high maintence".

I know that everyone else here said compliment and I would like to say that too, but maybe I'm just insecure when I say possible insult.

At least he didn't say you looked like a Bratz doll. :)

Seriously, I think it's a compliment.

I would take it as a compliment! BIG TIME! My kids friends would probably say I look like Pooh Bear!

I always say, if you have the choice between taking something as a compliment or as an insult, take it as a compliment. Why not?

This might sound catty, but I would take it as a compliment if it came from a male.

However, I would probably take it as an insult coming from a female.

Not gonna touch that one with a stick.

Actually, among the guys I know and work with, if we call someone barbie, it is always behind her back. Typically it means "trophy wife", "high maintenance date", and someone who doesn't do much anything except sit on the mantle.

Like some posters said, it depends on the age of the person who said it, and how he/she said it I suppose.
