COMPLETE- "We're Never Coming Back!...Until October" FEB '14 Princess Half Marathon

Great updates. The Boardwalk is my favorite resort, my "happy" place.

Thanks! It was definitely my favorite resort that I've stayed at so far (though that's biased because I still have so many to try.) The atmosphere was unbelievably perfect! :thumbsup2

Love the update! I haven't ever stayed at or been to Boardwalk so it's neat seeing your pictures. And the strawberry cupcake looks amazing! :)

Back in the States and catching up! You guys look adorable in your buns and tiaras!!

That medal is so precious, and you guys got some great pics on the course!

Mmmmm Mickey waffles and chocolate chip pancakes...I'll have one of each :rotfl:

Drooling over that picture of the bakery.

Your room is gorgeous, and you have such a great view! I'll be honest, the clown slide scares me a LOT, which is why if I get the chance I'd probably stay at Yacht or Beach Club before Boardwalk...but I'm glad you guys had fun!

You were in Italy, no? Regardless of the destination, I hope you had a fantastic time! :thumbsup2

As fun as the clown slide was, it still can't necessarily compete with the shipwreck slide at BC/YC. That ones so PoTC-esque and I love it!

The (wonderful) food-trastrophe that is ‘Ohana

My original plan was that we leave the room by 4PM to get a bus to MK, to get a boat to the Poly. Seeing as we left the pool only 15 minute prior, you can bet that didn’t happen! We all put on dresses and fancied ourselves up to catch a bus to MK by 4:30. By the time we got there, figured out the best way to get to the Poly (the ferry to the TTC), and got on the boat it was 5 of 5 and I knew we weren’t making it on time. I called the dining line just to make sure they would still hold our reservation (good to know- as long as you show up, they’ll seat you/not charge your card!) Once we got to the TTC, we walked to the Poly and made a bee-line to check in. We were seated with a very short wait. All in all, I’d say we sat down by 5:15ish.

At this point we were starving! Luckily, we were in the for an unexpected and endless supply of absolutely delicious food!

Our waiter, who we called ‘Cuz’, started us off with drinks and bread. I have no pictures of the bread (which should assure you it was delicious because we inhaled it.) MJ decided she was in a tropical mood and ordered a tasty Mahi-Mahi!

So as we’re sitting here, chatting and waiting for another course, the food-trastrophe that is ‘Ohana began. All of the sudden, Cuz started bringing food, after food, after food! I managed pictures of most of it but fair warning- there are a couple half eaten plates in here!

Potsuckers and chicken wings! The chicken wings were tasty, but kind of messy for my taste.

Another potsucker, another chicken wing, some eaten shrimp tales :rolleyes1, and chicken on the back of the plate.

Noodles and vegetables!

The only thing I thought was hit or miss was the steak. Some pieces were really good, and some things were really tough. There were definitely a ton of others choices so that didn’t make much of a difference to me. For dessert there was the infamous bread pudding with vanilla ice cream on the side.

Overall, this meal was an A+. It definitely lived up to it’s DIS hype and I’d happily return here again.
I am a bit of a picky eater, and when planning past trips, told my sister there was nothing here I could eat….how quickly my mind was changed about that! All of the food is flavorful and yet mild enough to appeal to picky eaters. I loved EVERYTHING except the pork and the noodles (not bad, just not a flavor I particularly cared for) and the shrimp (I don’t eat seafood so I didn’t actually try any). I can’t say how I felt about the vegetables-I was too busy stuffing myself with wings and potstickers to have more than a bite or two of broccoli! I can definitely see why people insist on eating here during every trip!

Ohana accomplished!

We left, overly stuffed and pushing that fine line of a food coma and made our way downstairs for a nice picture in front of the waterfall.

Isn’t the Poly lobby so lush? We swept through the giftshop too but didn’t stop for any pin trades or purchases. With the monorail being down until 7PM we walked out back, checked out the Volcano pool, and got in line to catch the boat to MK so we could see the Contemporary.

Looking back at one of the longhouses.

One of the best, impromptu decisions of the trip

The original plan for Friday was to see all three monorail resorts before returning to the Poly to watch Wishes! and eat dole whip on the beach. In reality, the monorail was down, we were running short on time (Wishes! started at 8PM) and we were running short on steam. We got to MK at right about 7PM so we hopped on the monorail to see the Contemporary. At this point, we were really dragging so we made a pictureless sweep through the lobby and out back to the pool. I was surprised at how plain the pool was. Some of the other deluxe pools we saw were so well themed and exciting but this one was a little blah for my taste. I suppose being able to walk to MK makes up for that!

Now we had to make a decision. Caitlin was out of steam and didn’t want to trek all the way back to the Poly, but I still really wanted to see Wishes. Wishes is my Disney moment. I listen to the soundtrack at home, and cry on a regular basis so I couldn’t miss it this trip. I quickly searched on my phone and saw that we could see the fireworks from the MK bus depot. We made a compromise- we’ll walk over and watch from the bus depot and jump on a bus before any crowds dump out of the park. We were all a little fried but we soldiered on. Once we got there, I realized we could get an even better view if we went through the bag check and sat right outside the gates. There was even an empty bench for perfect viewing! I walked over and took a few train station pics while we waited for the show to start.

What a welcome, magical sight!

As the title suggests- this was the best decision of the trip! Not only could we sit and hear the music really well, but this view gave me a whole new appreciation for the show.

Caitlin is actually posing just to the left of the center in this photo- do you see her?

A couple things I learned/noticed from this vantage point:
1. I noticed just how well the fireworks are themed to the music. I don’t know if this was because I wasn’t distracted by watching the castle lights, or if we were just a good distance where the sound and light lined up well.
2. Did you know there are Mickey-shaped, star-shaped, and heart-shaped fireworks? I do now!
3. Most of the fireworks are colored to match the theme of whatever character is singing/talking etc. So during the ‘I wish’ section, the fireworks were purple and green for Ariel, blue, gold and red for Snow White, etc.

Towards the end of the show I walked back over to the railing right in front of the train station and tried to line up a few pictures with some of the higher fireworks.

My favorite picture of the trip:

I actually think I declared this my favorite picture of the trip that night when we were walking towards the bus, haha! :goodvibes

I really like this one too because it has that exciting glow just behind the train station that sort of alludes to the magic that goes on everyday just behind that building.

We definitely walked away from this extremely excited and pleased as to how well that last minute decision turned out. We were able to hop right on an empty bus and head home to the Boardwalk. We laid out our costumes and got ready for another early wake-up call (and more magical miles) in the morning!

OH MY GOSH! What an amazing evening!

I love Ohana.. you didn't mention the salad. Oddly enough, that salad is one of my favorite aspects to the meal. (that and the bread pudding)

Your view point for wishes is just amazing! I may have to try that. So neat! And the pictures you got are just so nice! I love them!

Okay, so I am finding myself using a lot of !!! :rotfl: Point is, I really enjoyed your update. :goodvibes

They say Ohana means family, but I think it means filled to bursting!!!

Wow, I never thought the view would be so great from right inside the gates - that's awesome!

That night I was on my own in MK (waiting for my sister and the kids to show up from their long delayed flight!) and I sat in the Tangled area of New Fantasyland to watch the fireworks. It was a very different viewpoint - there were fireworks in front of and behind me. Not what I would call a good view, but different and kind of cool. And there was nobody around to see me mist up ;)

So looking forward to your update about the 10K :yay:

You're right- I totally forgot about the salad! That was delicious as well (thus no picture because we gobbled it up!)

It was a great view- it also might work well if Wishes is at closing and you want to be able to beat the crowds. I couldn't believe how nice the pictures turned out! I'm only using a dinky point and shoot so that was a pleasant surprise! :yay:

I've heard interesting things about the Tangled view- like you said, you're sort of surrounded by fireworks. Also watching with a different 'castle' I suppose, too! :)

Those 'Ohana pics look amazing!

That is a great fireworks viewing spot! Your pictures came out great.

I'm so hungry now after looking through your O'hana update!

I love the spot you picked out for Wishes! Isn't it awesome how Wishes can give you a completely different feel when you pick a different backdrop? Or should I say foreground? :rotfl: For the past couple of trips (as you saw on my TRs) I've been motivated to experience Wishes from new locations. Great update!

Yes I think the salad was gone to quick for anyone to remember it. And OMG the bread pudding...I was so full and forced myself to find room to eat more of that because it was amazing:love:

The lack of crowds was a big selling point on this viewpoint-being able to relax on a bench and tear up a little without being squished from all sides made up for not being able to see the castle.

Ohana has been on my ADR list each of the last few trips. We were planning to skip it this next trip... you are REALLY making me want to go there!!!

LOVE those shots of the fireworks over the train station! That is a vantage point I have never seen them and will consider now! Love it! :thumbsup2
