Hi all,

We're taking our 5 year old to DLP this weekend, and are complete and utter noobs!

We're planning to take a backpack with us into the park, but would like your seasoned suggestions as what is useful to take with us into the park for the day, things like sunscreen, water, plasters, etc etc? What can you not live without?

Also - we're trying to do this on a big budget, so snack wise does anybody have any ideas of things we can take in our backpack for lunch - things that don't have to be refrigerated?

Thanks in advance!

Hello!
I just recently got back from DLRP and it's fantastic!
I would suggest; sunscreen, plasters, antibacterial wetwipes(For those mucky hands) a jumper/coat- the weather can be quite unpredictable; water, light snacks such as flapjacks or if you're staying at a hotel with complimentary breakfast, we smuggled some croissants out :D
In the train station before you go through security there is a small shop selling sandwiches and snacks call RELAY. It's absolutely fantastic and the food/supplies are so much cheaper than the parks.
Remember your camera too!

Have a lovely time and safe trip :)

plasters, headache tablets, calpol are always in my DLP park bag.
Mini bags of cookies, crisps, and take water/soft drinks with you. You could also pack cereal bars.
And then the usual - camera, purse, spare batteries for camera, park tickets etc.

There is a McDonalds right outside the park gates in The Village area where you can get lunch if you want something hot and not expensive (theres also an Earl of Sandwich which is quite reasonable too).

If you have them I would take lightweight wayterproof jackets that fold up into your bag. It may be warm enough that you don't want coats, but you could still get some rain!

Also take some calpol just in case for your 5 year old.

If you still have a pushchair, I would consider taking it, or you can rent one at the park (7 euros I think) even though your five year old may not have used one for a long time, it is a very long day with lots of walking, and it also comes in handy to park up and get a spot for the parade, and they can rest their legs for a while!

My children aged 6 and four both argue over whose turn it is to have a rest in the pushchair when we're at Disney, and neither of them use it a home!

Baby wipes, nappy sacks and anti-bac hand gel are always in my bag, along with calpol/paracetamol/nurofen/asthma pumps, camera and spare batteries and a wad of tissues lol!

Definitely take antibacterial hand sanitizer, it is so much easier and faster than washing and drying hands.

Suncream and hats definitely- I was there a week ago and whilst the mornings were very chilly the sun was hot. We also liked to wear longer trousers in the morning and change in to shorts as the sun came up which we put in our rucksacks.

Drinks bottles are a must for doing Disney on a budget. Water fountains are dotted around the parks so you can fill them up which you need to do often when it is warm and it will save you from spending 3 euros a time on a drink!

Food wise we benefited from dried fruit like raisins and apricots, nuts, cereal bars, flap jacks, chocolate, crisps, cup-a-soups in the room at night (and bread taken from breakfast! shh!). I'm writing my trip report at the moment and there is a photo of all the food we took and I think perhaps we over did it a little but we were never hungry!

I think the buggies were 9 euros to rent but I would have liked one at some points so like others I would definitely recommend that for your little one.

Have a wonderful time!

If you've got a Poundland near you then you can usually pick up cheap one use ponchos which take up virtually no space in the cases and handbags, very useful for a sudden downpour! Extra batteries for cameras are a must and if you plan on buying an autograph book then possibly a sharpie or something like that rather than buying a pen in the park.

Suntan lotion, calpol, paracetamol, plasters and possibly mozzy repellant might come in handy as well.

The shop on the station sells big 2 litre bottles of water which could always be decanted into smaller bottles if you don't fancy drinking from the fountains.

If you buy meals in the park be sure to check the back of the receipt as there's sometimes vouchers for free drinks later in the day. It's usually one per receipt so if you really want to get your money's worth you could be really cheeky and pay for each meal seperately :thumbsup2

Great tips everyone, thanks so much!

I better get shopping and a bit better organised! We just picked up our Euros and I am officially excited now - we leave on Saturday and so far *crosses fingers* the weather looks excellent :cool1:

Also as another question (but may warrant it's own thread), I'm pregnant and walking is a bit of a struggle at the moment because of an aggravated back condition, we'd like to hire a wheelchair for me when it gets too much - is this easily done?

PD

If you are pregnant you can get a special pass at guest services if you provide proof. I'm sure someone you has actually done it will provide more info.

Oh thanks, I shall start another thread in case its not seen!

The two essentials we always have are sun cream and waterproof jackets.

Last couple of times I have taken the individually wrapped crepes from Asda for a quick snack, normally always have a pack of bread sticks or crackers as well.

Every trip so far as well we have always taken a buggy.... Not sure this time, DS is 5 now and wouldn't be seen dead in it at home but can't make up his mind if he wants it for our october trip.

Have a great time
