complaints about no podcast dut to illness

taking a sick day........and that, after all, is what this is about.......i a very personal thing. i work with guys who have not taken one for 20 years......i myself am good for at least 3 a year......the guys who never take one look down their nose at the guys that do......and wonder out loud if they were really even sick. sometimes a sick day can have a ripple affect and disrupt the business flow and if you are one of the studs who work through everything you are going to be vocal........a lot of the time it is not to attack the sick person but to make sure everyone knows that the iron man is indestructible......it is about the same thing here just once removed......... someone is always ready to tell you that you are not paddleing your canoe fast enough to suit them.........people who complain about things that cause them some degree of inconvience are always looking for a soapbox to jump up on......anyway thats what reruns are for.

I whole heartily agree with this thread. Yes, it's a bummer when there isn't a show due to illness....but so what??? It's not the end of the world and the team will do a show when everyone is well again. I am thrilled that Pete called them out on it (and I agree with not giving out the names...((very classy Pete)), and they know who they are.)

When the show is aired after an illness, I am more excited to know that everyone's health is back.

To the PodCast Team: Keep up the great work that you do for us.

ok so i have a problem with this post, people who go o work even of they are sick are the people who are the people companies want working for them. they are the people who have the best work ethic known to man. then there are the people, like myself, who CAN'T AFFORD to be out of work even for one day. we dont have the "Job security" that others do. so next time please refrain from calling us morons.

Someone who goes to work sick not caring if they infect others are morons. Does the word Epidemic mean anything to you? No, someone who goes to work sick does not have a good work ethic, they have no ethics. How would you feel if you came to work with the flu, gave it to a co-worker who carried it home to their newborn who died because they were too young to be given the anti-viral medication? I don't mean you should miss work for every illness, but there are some infectious diseases that you should stay away from others unless you just don't care if you get someone else sick.

While I feel it's a little harsh to call people names, I can agree with both sides.

I go to school full time as well as working full time while running my own business from home. Therefore, when I get sick, it really messes me up. So yeah, I do wish people would stay home when they get sick. But I also work at a place where we are fortunate enough to get enough personal time that we can stay home if we need to.

Some places however, don't give out that much personal time, and some don't give it at all. Or if you've already used up your personal time, say, going on vacation to WDW, and have none left, it could get you in a lot of trouble to miss work. So for some people, it can be hard to stay home.

So there's good points on both sides.

Can we all just get along, or at least agree to disagree? :flower3:

ASIDE from that, I do get sad when there's no podcast, but only because I love hearing it. I don't get mad, beause I'm not paying for it, therefore I'm not entitled to it. Begrudging the team for staying home sick, even if it WASN'T about getting others sick, is pretty ridiculous. When you're sick, you want to rest, not haul your butt to work. The podcast team is the same as everyone else, and they deserve the same luxuries as everyone else.

Thanks for all you do Pete and the gang!

When I started listening to the podcast several years ago, I never even knew it came out on certain days and that people posted on discussion boards "Podcast is up!"

When it was on iTunes, it loaded on to my iPod and I was happy.

About a year and a half ago, I wrote an email and Pete read it on air. It was a request that if there was no podcast, could Pete record a very mini podcast that would say simply "Sorry, there is no podcast this week". He could have it pre-recorded and just drop it in where ever it needed to go to get the message out to us.
I asked this for people like me who only listen to the podcast and do not read the discussion boards, facebook, and the website. (I do all those things now)

Pete's immediate response was "NO". but then he said he would.
But he never has. I am not accusing or complaining. Just sayin'.

I have no idea what would be involved in putting a mini podcast message up. At the time, I was picturing Pete walking to a room in house in clicking a few buttons and having it done in a few minutes. I don't have a clue how it is done! It probably is not all that easy at all.

If people are sick and they do not get together to produce a podcast, no problem. WDW is not all that urgent, we will all get together at another time. :goodvibes

Who ARE these people? I mean, how nasty to complain about (no offense, Round Table) a podcast. As much as we all love you guys, it's not the end of the world if you have to miss a week, due to sickness of all things!

They are most likely the same "people" and I use the term loosely that turn up in chat and ask the Podcast team if they are "giving anything away" and then disappear when there isn't. How rude is that?

I can't believe that some people would complain when there is no show. Geez, the team give us enough as it is! Sure I'm disappointed when there is no show but to complain about it wouldn't even cross my mind!

It's hard to believe that some people complain about no podcast. I'm just grateful for the ones that we have & enjoy them a lot. I'm lucky that I have a great immune system. I work with sick people daily yet I rarely get sick. I haven't used a sick days in several years. I'm just glad that pete got well & no one else got sick

:sad2:

I just had to make a comment about the people who complained about no podcast due to the fact that Pete was sick. They must be the same type of MORONS who go to work sick, then infect everyone around them. That's how we end up with things like the flu epidemics! If people stay home & away from others when they are sick, germs get passed around much less. It takes an intelligent person to stay away from others when they are sick! I guess I shouldn't complain. As a Primary Care Provider, I LOVE sick people. That's just more for me to cure. Now that's job security.

I couldnt agree with you more. I worked with a lady who obviously very sick, hacking, coughing, nose running, and even puking in the ladies room. Everyone around her kept telling her to go home because she looks terrible. She kept saying, sorry i cant afford to , i dont have enough sick time. I finally had enough and said " im sorry you dont any sick time, but you sit right near at least 8 other people and you are going to get this entire area sick, you really should go home and rest" , and she said in a snarky voice " I dont care who i get sick, you all aint going to pay my bills are you? so tough luck, if i get sick , you get sick" we all looked at each other and couldn't believe she actually said that. I dont care how broke you are or if you dont have sick days, if you are sick with a contagious illness, the right thing to do is to go home. I was so offended that she was totally willing to get others sick for a few bucks. I am not saying you should abuse the system at all, but if you are really sick, stay home. I dont need your nasty illness any more than she needed a punch in the nose. Think about others before you infect a whole office. And if your work place is willing to fire you because you called in when you are actually really sick? maybe time to find a better employer, because that is just ridiculous.

snarky voice " I dont care who i get sick, you all aint going to pay my bills are you? so tough luck, if i get sick , you get sick"

Your co-workers attitude was unacceptable.

And if your work place is willing to fire you because you called in when you are actually really sick? maybe time to find a better employer, because that is just ridiculous.

Unfortunately in the real world that's not always an option. Sick days are rarely tolerated in blue collar jobs and any more, in many professional office.

Yes, people still get sick days. I actually have a job with unlimited sick/personal days. They can be used for appointments that cannot be done outside of working hours (such as dentists appts) or if you or your child gets sick. However, I MAY use 4-5 per year. And yes, that's in addition to vacation time.

As to the podcasts, can I get my money back if a podcast is missed one week??? Oh....yeah...they're free. Hmmm...maybe the naysayers that sent nasty grams should use the money they aren't spending on the podcast to buy a clue. Just sayin'....

Who ARE these people? I mean, how nasty to complain about (no offense, Round Table) a podcast. As much as we all love you guys, it's not the end of the world if you have to miss a week, due to sickness of all things!

I know! They're probably the same people who:

roll eyes and complain when they have to wait for an ECV or wheelchair to be loaded on a bus,

who cut in front of you for a parade and stick their kid on their shoulders,

whose party of 12 fan out across the entire walkway and make YOU move for them,

who push their kids to the brink of exhaustion and then yell at them for melting down, usually using the words "DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I'M PAYING FOR THIS VACATION?"

swim in the damn lakes

Hugs to Pete, John, Kevin, Corey, Julie, Teresa, Walter, Kathy, and Max the Intern!

I was thinking something along those lines myself. These are the people that berate CM's, demand massive upgrades for minor inconveniences and generally go through life miserable because the world doesn't revolve around their every desire.

I love my podcast too and I miss the weeks when we don't have it. However, over the years that I've been listening I've come to feel that the team are "friends" and I genuinely care about them. When I hear that the podcast is canceled due to illness, I'll be honest-I say a little prayer for whoever is sick. I probably should be saying a little prayer for those miserable people that sent the emails too-that maybe they learn some compassion for others.

Oh, my gosh! People actually turn up and ask if the Podcast team are giving away anything!!! That's unbelievable! I guess I live in a little bit of a bubble...by choice. I avoid people with 'attitudes' of any kind, they just are downers for me.

As far as those who write nasty e-mails when there isn't a Podcast due to illness (or any other reason), that also blows my mind. How inconsiderate and rude! Yes, I look forward to each Podcast and miss it when (for whatever reason) it doesn't happen, but to be angry....just don't understand that.

You cant reason with or shame someone like that. I hope the entire can reconize they are selfish idiots and in the very small minority.

A certain two-wheeled recreational vehicle comes to mind. :rolleyes1

I totally agree with this thread. The podcast team works very hard, and even if they cannot get together to record a show, they are still always working to make us happy. Websites never close!

Thank you Podcast team for bringing happiness to so many people.

I always hear this argument and just don't buy it, especially if you have direct contact with your customers. I don't see how getting your customers sick is good for the business and that is the main priority of anyone working at a for-profit company, the customer. It is not good work ethic to go into work and spread an illness that will cost the company way more man hours then it would have if you just took a day or two to get better. If a sick person comes to work and gets 10 other people sick, even if everyone just takes one 8 hour day, that is 80 hours of lost production instead of 8 or 16. Must be that fancy AT&T math at. Of course some companies make it harder to take sick time and that is just short sighted on their part for the exact same reason.

Back on topic though, it is nice to have a show every week but if someone is sick and that means the show can't get recorded it is more important that everyone gets well then I get my fix of the DIS. There is a bit of an entitlement problem with some folks and I'm sure that extends to their expectations for a show unfortunately.

I was shocked that Pete got hatemail about not doing a show. The way I look at it, it's Pete's show, his boards, and he can do whatever he wants. I'm just here for the fun.

Oh My Goodness, you must be kidding me? I just saw this thread. Did Pete mention the stupid emails on this last podcast? If so, I guess I need to get caught up & listen to it.

OK Pete, this is me shaking my finger at you looking very stern... "Don't you dare even respond to one single email of this sort. There are some in our society infected with the "entitlement" disease, but it is not your problem to cure them.
On behalf of Podcast-Nation, thanks to all of our amazing DIS podcast crew. You brighten our days in ways we could never thank you, and don't you ever forget it!"

Okay, I'm done shaking my finger, you're free to go now :)

i just listended to the podcast last night and was also in complete shock when i heard that people complain when there is no podcast.

i thought to myself i wouldn't even give idiots like that the time of day, let alone a response. Probably nothing you say Pete is going to make them understand.

The truth is, i find it terribly depressing to know there are idiots like this out there.

Pete, there are many many many more of us who appreciate everything you do, even if we don't write in to tell you about it. You are amazing!!!
You and your team bring joy to our lives!!! :goodvibes

I guess this goes to show that there are all kinds of people in the world, including the selfish kind who don't care who they make sick. I used to have a nurse that worked for me (with the emphasis on USED TO), who came to work sick not once but twice with something contagious. Once was strep throat, the second time the flu. Her job was as a phone nurse to answer patients questions & return phone calls so she wasn't around the patients just the staff. She didn't tell anyone when she was working with strep or that she had a 102 fever until the end of the day when she asked for me to look at her. I explained to her (which I thought shouldn't have been needed for a nurse), that she shouldn't be around others with strep & a fever. I didn't let her work until she had been fever free for 24 hours. A few months after that she came to work with the flu. She again didn't tell anyone that she was sick. She spent some time with one of the other doctors in our practice going over some paperwork that day. She also watched that doctor's 2 y/o daughter for a while until her nanny picked her up. She infected both of them. I got a phone call from that doctor the next day, which was the weekend, that she had the flu as well as her daughter & husband. They all had their flu shots recently, but they hadn't had time to become effective. I called in the Tamiflu for them on a Saturday. I had to switch her patients on Monday to my schedule or re-schedule some of them. There were 3 people who got sick due to someone not caring about making others, including a 2 y/o, sick. Needless to say, she works elsewhere now.
