Without actually experiencing the exact situation the OP did, here's my take.
If I was going to try on 3 outfits and a salesperson told me to bring out any I don't want and yelled it at me or said it with attitude, I'd grab a whole bunch of extra stuff and take it in the dressing room and take it all off the hangers and put it in a pile and then leave the store.
Childish yes, but it would make me feel good.
And that's all it's about, making me feel good.
Okay, okay...I wouldn't really do that (or would I???
).
Anyway, there's no excuse to be rude to customers. NONE, NADA, ZILCH!! I worked many years in a retail environment and then in a corporate service environment. You leave your bad attitude at the door when you walk into work. If you are having a bad day at work, you save it and let it out when you walk out the door.
Customer service is a long lost art. You are there to do a job and support me, the customer. I'm there to spend money that pays your salary so that you have a job. If I'm nice and polite, I expect the same from you.
I'm sick and tired of people thinking they are entitled. Entitled to give attitude or bad service. Entitled to feel put-out because a customer asked you a question. Entitled to make me wait as you talk to your friend on the phone (can't tell you how many times this has happened).
Just close your mouth, be polite and helpful and do your job. It's what you were hired to do. You can bad mouth the customer up and down when the day is done.
An no, I don't look down on anyone because of their job. I'll look down on you because of who you are or what your attitude it. If you collect the garbage or clean a toilet or whatever, it's a job that needs done and you're doing it. That doesn't make you any more or less in my book.
