Complaining about complaining

We were on last week's Alaska voyage, and everything was incredible. I spent about an hour and a half early on waiting in line for character breakfast and Frozen meet & greet tickets. That was my choice. I could have done without, but I chose to wait and was happy to do so.

What I wasn't thrilled about was listening to 3 people around me in line complain the whole time - to each other and a young CM who likely had no control over the process.

While I agree that there may be a more efficient way to run the process, why start your week long cruise off by complaining for an hour and a half? You're on a Disney cruise for goodness sakes. Deal with it, or tell your family there's no character breakfast for them this time around.

Thanks Disney for giving us a truly magical experience, line or no line. :)

We only waited about 15 minutes but I guess it depends on when you board the ship. We had a blast on ours. I agree with you, why complain? It's a vacation...relax and enjoy. It was a really relaxing vacation for us despite all the activities and things to do on the ship. The cruise exceeded our expectations.

We were among the first groups to board, but didn't go directly to the line. Everything was just so beautiful, and we had looked forward to this cruise for a year. We experienced nothing but joy. :) Our highlight was Musher Camp in Skagway. That experience was unreal!!

We also did the musher camp in Skagway, it was fun, my kids loved it. I have posted tons of photos in the link in my signature of our trip.

I'm with the complainers. For the price dcl charges, people have a right to expect not to have to wait in line while on vacation for an hour and a half- assuming there is a better way to do it. And it seems like there are plenty of ways they could expedite those customer service lines. If they open palo reservations up online pre cruise, why not character breakfast or meet reservations? I can only assume that disney is trying to discourage people from participating in those events. It is just plain tacky.

Would you be angry if you had to wait an hour and a half for dining tickets everyday? What would be too much waiting for you? I agree it is unpleasant to be around people complaining. But if people never complained, things would not get better.

There is a time and place for complaining. Go to guest services. Whining non stop for an hour and a half to other guests is counterproductive and a bit of a downer. And the CM they were complaining to while we stood near her post? What did they expect from her? Make the line disappear? Tickets for character breakfasts are a new thing. Obviously the kinks need to be worked out. Any vacation involving Disney is bound to include a line or two. I guess I'm more for dwelling on the good things yet to come than a brief time of inconvenience. I guess it's the whole is the glass half full /half empty thing. :)

Oops - didn't mean for this to be in trip reports. Is there a way to change the location?

I don't think this happens all the time if it did it would be talked about on these boards.
Sometimes stuff happens. Computers go down.

An hour and a half?:scared1: Sorry but yeah that is way too long. I could see stuff being said. I am all about wanting to be zen while on vacation especially Alaska but that is too long considering what DCL is selling for Alaska. Thinking that is acceptable well sorry do not agree there. No Pixie Dust in that!

I agree...we waited one whole family (maybe 2-3 minutes tops) when we were getting all of our specialty tickets. I would have been really irritated if I had to wait that long, and I would have made it known to the staff/guest services.

I believe another TR mentioned there were computer problems and other issues.

And no way in heck would I have stood in line for 90 minutes without some pretty heavy sighs and snarky commentary. (Well, no way would I have stood in that line period.)

That said, I always have earbuds with me. No need to listen to other people's complaints in the first place. Podcasts are much more enlightening. :)

We stood in the line for specialty tickets (character breakfast / meet & greet) on our Alaska cruise. I remember that it was not short - probably 50 folks in front of us when we got in line. They had three computers going to give out tickets. It was not quick - probably took about an hour overall. But we had a good time chatting with the folks in line. Helping some newbies and reassuring others that it would be great. I'm sure with time they will come up with some improvements to this new experiment. An hour does seem like a long line in hindsight but we wanted those tickets so it was worth it at the time. My only complaint was that they had the Pixar Meet & Greet set up during a port time that we were already committed to.

Freedom of speech. Maybe that's how they wanted to pass the time? Maybe they had something planned and didn't plan for the super long line like that? I would be complaining to whoever. Just to do it. JW

One of my frequent saying is, "There are just some people who are not happy unless they are miserable!" What exactly the whiners expect to accomplish by complaining incessantly to other guests, or a lowly CM, is beyond me. If you are going to complain, complain to someone who can make a difference. Otherwise, all you manage to do is make everyone around you as miserable as you are.
