Competitive figure skating moms...

Hey, I just noticed this thread! I'm not a skating mom (yet), but a skating coach (as you can see by my sig).

I haven't read through the rest of this thread yet, but nice to see a figure skating thread come up on the DIS! I can go to one place to talk about my two favorite things!

Welcome to the thread Manty  . Skating coaches are some of our favorite people. Probably because we spend so much time with them ;) . What area of skating do you specialize in? Is Wisconsin in the Upper Great Lakes region?

Yes, Upper Great Lakes. I am also an adult competitior. I coach mostly beginners, through about Preliminary/Pre-Juv. Most of the students I coach are in it for fun...I haven't had any real serious competitiors yet.

I am actually listening to music for this years programs as I speak. I'm actually using some of the Disney theme park music this year. The EPCOT entrance song on the new Happiest Celebration on Earth CD is great for skating.

Also, I have my first boy student this year which will be a change. I am currently cutting Sharp Dressed Man for his artistic program. It will be a nice change from dresses and girly music!

A number of coaches I know are also still involved with competing at the adult level. My DH is on an adult ice theatre team and he loves it.

Disney has some great skating music. My DD loves it and all the girly costumes too. Boys are definitely fun to have for a change. My son has been competing since he was 10. He's skated to music from Back to the Future, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Carribean, Hidalgo and for this season it's the Addams Family for his short program and That's Entertainment for his long. He coaches at a Learn to Skate program and can't decide if he wants to pursue that or go into judging. He's 15 now and still having fun with skating, so we'll see where it takes him.
