I see posts here comparing different stateroom categories. Just wondering is cat. 7(navigator's veranda) better than just a porthole(category 8)? It looks like the navigator's veranda is just larger and oval shaped? Am i right? As you can see, I am very confused and cruising is all new to our family. Is it better to just splurge and go with category 6 and have a full veranda since this would be our first cruise. Thanks for any advice.:D

The Navigator's Verandah is different from the category 8 porthole. The two rooms are essentially the same, but the category 7 rooms have an actual verandah, which adds some 50 sq. ft. to the room. The verandah is partially enclosed, but the porthole you see is open-air, not glass. It's a private balcony, as opposed to a window. On the Wonder, the opening is oblong, on the Magic, it's round, but either way it's a step above the category 8 rooms. Hope this makes sense.

I personally like the category 7 rooms. I like having a verandah, and I think the partial enclosure is a fair trade-off for the price difference between the regular verandah rooms, categories 5 & 6.

Thanks so much for the quick response.
Something to think about and talk to DH about. Thanks again!!:D

Just one more note on the category 8 vs category 7 vs category 6 debate. Only the category 8's and 6's will be able to hold 4 people in a cabin. All category 7's only hold 3 people, so that might be a consideration for you. We've always sailed in a category 6 and love it, but with a family of 4, the category 7 isn't an option for us!!!!

*warning* Stupid cruise question coming from a person who has never cruised before.

You have been warned. LOL
Here goes:
Cat 9 porthole... I know it's glass- but it doesn't OPEN does it? (please say no... please say it has no way to open it)

No, the category 9 portholes do not open, and no question is stupid!! :wave2: It's just stupid not to ask!!!!:teeth:

jel0511: Thanks, I had no idea category 7 only holds 3 people. Luckily, we are a family of only 3 so that would fit us fine.

Why do categories 6 and 8 hold 4 people and cat. 7 does not? Is the pullout bed smaller in cat. 7? Just wondering. Thanks!

The 3rd bed is not smaller. DCL told me that rooms on upper floors behind the aft elevators all are 3 person rooms because of the amount of wiring and structural elements. Have no idea if it is true, but that was the reason they told me no ceiling beds in those rooms.
