How much of a "thrill" ride is Soarin'?
Does it compare to Body Wars and Star Tours? What would you compare it to?

Soarin is not a thrill ride. It is very gentle, no sudden jerks, very smooth, very beatiful, not scary in any respect, unless you have a fear of heights. I would compare the motion to Peter Pan's Flight if the PPF ride vehicles were suspended over an IMAX screen and not miniature sets.

Hope this helps.

I agree with Becca. I was on it a couple years ago in DL. Very fun,
but not a thrill ride. You sit on what looks like a giant ski lift and it raises you off the floor 10 or so feet. Then you appear to fly around by watching the big screen in front of you. If the lines aren't too long, I have no fear of taking my DD4 on it.

Soarin' can't even be compared with Star Tours. . . it is difficult to explain, but the illusion on soarin' is just fantastic. I also wouldn't classify it as a thrill ride, and it is much less intense than Star Tours or Body Wars. If you are afraid of heights, get the back row, it doesn't go as high. I have also heard that if you have a tendancy for motion sickness, you should sit on the outside so you can look at the wall and establish some stability.

It really is a MUST do for my family. . . I was sitting next to my Dad the first time we went on and he was a little aprehensive because of a bad experience with a motion simulator in Vegas, but the second Soarin' started, he said "We have to do this again!!" And we did. . . again and again (it was Feb, so the lines weren't bad and we used FP some as well).

From what I've read and heard so far it's a peaceful ride with a great view ;)
You go up 40-45 feet in the air. I don't want to miss it!

The best description is that it mirrors attending an IMAX movie in the round. You watch a movie on a domed screen, but your seat moves in sync with the ride and you do feel like you are soarin'.

It was a great ride, just not long enough. Except at Christmas, when the line to ride was 3 hours long :furious: . Thank goodness for FastPass. :cheer2:

It is a gentle peaceful ride. Do not be afraid to take it. It is in no way a thrill ride. There are not more than 5 or so thrill rides in all of Disney! The only bad part is if you are not in the first car you can see the feet of the people of the care ahead of you...cuts down on the magic some.

I had read on another site that it was a ride recommended for teens. I was afraid to take my mom and my motion-sensitive dh.
Your reviews have made it sound doable for us all.

We have done Soarin probably 6 or 7 times. The first time was at Disneyland and DD6 had just turned 3. We were worried about her reaction. It was wonderful and Soarin is now one of her favorites. It is like hanging in front of an Imax screen and moving. You can even smell fresh oranges and pine trees. We loved it.

My mother loved it and wanted to ride it again and again. Seriously!

It's not a thrill ride, but a unique and beautiful tour over California! Definitely more fun than a movie!

It is really beautiful and a very gentle ride. Don't miss it, but get a fp for sure!

I rode Soarin' at 7 months pregnant, so no, I would not consider it a thrill ride. Worth getting a fastpass for? Sure. It is neat for the effects.

I am horrifically affraid of heights and was scared to death to ride Soarin and I loved it! It's like watching an IMAX movie up in the air on a swing.

The IMAX comparison is a good one, actually the OMNIMAX screens are probably a little better, since they are arced to provide a wider, surrounding view. I get very queasy on Star Tours (although I ride it at least twice each trip, just carry the little bag from the plane with me. Never actually gotten sick, but I've come pretty close). Body Wars is even worse for me. Probably because I am a Star Wars nut so it makes it worth an upset stomach to fly with Artoo.

Any way. Soarin' doesn't even compare. Very gentle ride, no ill effects at all.

I'd definitely go if I were you. It's cool.

I do , do thrill rides, and have only ridden this one time.
It is a gentle ride, but it did startle me at first when the seats first lifted up, I simply didn't know what to except so i was startled a bit. However once I realized it wasn't a thrill ride about to do something crazy I was fine.
I can't say it jazzes me as much as some folks, but it is certainly worth doing. I doubt i would wait more than 20 minutes for this ride, i would wait 30 for splash mt to give you an idea of what i like .
try it you will be fine

Soaring is a fantastic ride! You sit in a "hang glider" with 3 rows at ground level when you "board" your flight. The only time you feel an upward motion is in the dark when you get into position for the start of the film. The highest row is probably 35' from the floor and the lowest row is about 10' from the floor at that point. The IMAX / OMNIMAX screen size/shape comarison is very close to describing the screen. Along with the "sense" that you are hang gliding, you will also "feel" and "smell" the orange grove, the ocean, and feel winds blowing, etc. The ride is amazing. I for one am not a real big thrill ride rider; I hate roller coasters. This has become one of my wife's and mine favorates at Epcot, and is worth doing.
