We are thinking about going to one of these shows. Myself, DD 3, DD 11 months. What is the best?

We love Hoop Dee Doo - we go everytime we're there. We did Aloha once and won't go back - it wasn't terrible, just not worth the money for us. We've never tried the BBQ.

Why didn't you like the Aloha?

Ditto also. The aloha was a good show but a lousy meal. We went to the Hoop-dee-do revue our last trip and it was great. The show is awesome and the food, though regular barbecue fare, was great. The other thing with the Luau was the seating. We were sat at long tables with other families. Normally not a bad thing, but it was that night. Very crowded.

Ditto to all of this, as well.

We hit the HDDR just about every visit. Show is corny but we enjoy it and the food is rather good along with all the free beer and sangria.

Done the Aloha, once long ago and the show was not exciting, rather lame and the food is done to the Hawaiian culture and not to our liking for the price.

As far as the Backyard BBQ, similar to HDDR, but outside, don't think there's a show and I believe it was devised to pick up the guests who could not get tickets for the HDDR, sort of an overflow show.

For the money, we prefer paying the extra bucks and booking early to sit inside Pioneer Hall for the real Hoop Dee Do.

At $50 a head, I would not call anything on your table at the Hoop "FREE."

;)

(But I know what you meant.) :thumbsup2

We love the Hoop for the food and the show.

Its so good, its almost un-BEAR-able!

:goodvibes

Well... I've been to all 3 and enjoy all of them for different reasons. To me, the food is OK at all of them.
Last year was my 1st try A MBB and it was a "blast" !!
Its a buffet picnic type food, under a large wood roof (sides are open) like a picnic pavillion. There is a band, Goofy, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, C&D are ALL out...dancing on the stage and get the kids and adults ALL involved line dancing and hoop and hollaring !!

The best for the kids, not glued to thier seats and havin a great time !! :yay:
A must do from now on....Can't believe I've never tried it in all these years...

Here's a quick pic...yep, that's me the old one dancin' :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We have done all three also, and enjoyed all three. MBB is the best for the kids to do their thing. Jump, dance and play with the characters and the kids and get involved too :rotfl2:

Aloha was fine, we normally do this when its just the two of us, no grand kids. Our grand kids are too young to enjoy the Aloha, maybe in a few years, it would be fine for them. The HDDR is always a great show and meal, the kids enjoy this also, we have never had a bad experience at any of the 3 shows.

We will be going to WDW with at 2 y.o. Do any of you suggest trying HDDR with a 2 y.o. or do you think that is too young for this type of show? Thanks for the help.

:welcome: to the DISboards.

2 yo will enjoy the atmosphere of fun,
but won't grasp the nuance of the double entendre.

Robo...
The lil' one in my pic above just turned 2 and she had a great time dancin' with Goofy leading at the MBB!! I would also have taken her to the HDD ... MBB just gave more freedom for her...and yes me following her around!!

STEAMBOAT209.. Hello fellow New Jersian !!:wave2:

Just to be CLEAR, the poster was asking about a 2 yo at the HOOP.

Don't want anyone to think that Goofy is at the Hoop.

The Hoop is PLENTY "goofy" on its own.

;)

Always been a bit curious about the luau, but don't know that we're going to go ahead & do it w/ all the advice to the contrary here. We took oldest DD when she was 2-1/2 to Mickey Luau they used to have for kids years ago & it was very lame. Always kind of assumed the real luau was better, but the reviews kind of sound a lot like how we felt about the Mickey one.

HDDR is an absolute BLAST! The backyard BBQ doesn't sound like our thing, but might be great for those travelling w/ hard-to-contain smallfry.

I will post in favor of the BBQ also. The only limitation is the BBQ is only offered on certain days of the week. The fact the kids get to get up and participate is what makes it more fun for them. The characters are all willing to dance witht he kids and the host and hostess make sure the kids all get involved. There is also a Rope trick artist and a Country Line Dance instructer that get involved when the band takes a break. Plus the band does the best version of "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" of any band without Charlie Daniels.

I don't get it. I think the Aloha at the Polynesian is awesome! The food is great if you love Polynesian food!

Also, I really enjoy the show itself. The music is really nice, and the firedancer guy is awesome! I just love the atmosphere of the place!

I am thinking about going to the Luau next year. I guess the only way I will know if I like it is to try it.
