Compare Castaway Cay to Aulani?

We were at Aulani earlier this month and I think construction prep might have already started. I sure hope it doesn't change the Aulani atmosphere too much as we love it there.

I remember when Marriott only had one timeshare building in Ko Olina. No Aulani. The area has grown so much over the years. There was talk of an aquarium but that never seemed to gain any traction.

I love Ko Olina as it is away from all the hustle and bustle of Honolulu/Waikiki. Some folks love staying in the thick of it, but for us, we want WAY more relaxing surroundings when in beautiful Hawaii. And a drive to North Shore is quite easy IMHO, from Aulani. Parts of North Shore remind me of Kauai. So pretty.

Aulani is beautiful, we spent 5 days there in 2015 before our DCL Hawaiian Cruise and loved it.
We only left the resort once to go see Pearl Harbor, we decided to just stay and enjoy the resort the other 4 days because we loved it so much.
Hoping to go back in 4 years for our 35th with our kids and grandkids.

Different music is played, but swimming is fine in both places.
The music they play at Aulani is fantastic as all the classic Disney songs have been re-done in a Hawaiian theme/tone. I think they talked about it on the podcast that they don't sell the music in any of the gift shops. popcorn::

Keaei'i Reichel wrote the theme music for Aulani and was there for the Hawaiian blessing of the resort's opening. He is a fabulous Hawaiian musician kumu hula (hula teacher, and native of Maui. There are a couple of Aulani CD's available. Either Kalepa Store or Hale Manu should have them. I believe Keali'i also oversaw the hula choreography for the former Starlit Hui at Aulani. I don't know if he had a lot of input for the current luau that replaced the non-luau Starlit Hui. :cutie:

I have also bought Aulani CD's online! :sunny: Here's one of them available on Apple:

I totally underestimated your rabid Hawaiian freak status! So much input. I love it! Thank You for that link because it's basically the soundtrack of Aulani. BUT am I right that those classic Disney songs that typically play in the elevators are not available for purchase? I'm pretty sure Kevin mentioned that there is no way to get them.

:joker: :joker: :joker: Oh yeah. I could have gone on & one. Keali'i's hula halau have won at the Merry Monarch, the most prestigious hula competition on the planet that I'm aware of!

Actually, Dis_Mike, that elevator music should be on 1 of the 2 CD's that are available. Did you listen to any of the 5 songs on the link I posted? I'll look around and find the link to the other CD. I have them both. :rolleyes1 :D

Love his music! My favorite is Maunaleo from the Kamahiwa album. It took Aulani awhile to make the resort music available, but it was worth the wait.

Okay, hmmmmm. The album shown in my link above, "Music of the Maka'Ala shows only 5 songs whereas the CD I downloaded a good while back has like 10......

Here's a link to, "Mele (means song) from Auntie's Beach House Aulani", which can be heard if you have Apple Music. I'll bet your elevator music is on this!

As long as we're talking Aulani music, the 2 lounges at Aulani have OUTSTANDING live Hawaiian entertainment each evening. These folks they have are truly the cream of the Hawaiian music crop, most being Na Hoku Hanohano Award winners. :cloud9:

That link was extremely helpful and EXACTLY what I was looking for. "If you listen closely, you’ll hear classic Disney songs being sung in Hawaiian!" So I need to get
‘Mele from Aunty’s Beach House’

Sorry for any confusion...Maunaleo isn't part of the Aulani CD. It's the first Keaei'i Reichel song I heard back in 2005 and from then on I was hooked. Highly recommend it!

:cutie: Thanks, but I think it was MY answer that might have caused the confusion, Islandsnoopy. I was surprised to see that the current Aulani CD doesn't have as many songs as my older version. Like you, I looooooove Keali'i Reichel's voice and have several of his CD's. There is something about great Hawaiian music that is SO relaxing. Absolutely love it!

For anyone intending to sunset dine in Waikiki while on Oahu, especially if you are planning on dining at Duke's, there is a group we love called Maunalua that often performs there! There are some fabulous slack key guitarists for those who want/need some wonderful Hawaiian music: Led Kaapana, Jeff Peterson, Nathan Aweau, George Kahumoku, Jr., and on and on. Vocal-wise, besides Keali'i Reichel, I love Kuana Torres Kahele, and Teresa Bright who regularly performs at AMA AMA at Aulani. She is awesome!
