We are looking to purchase our first DSLR camera and have decided on a Canon T3. There are several great package deals out there and have narrowed it down to 2 different ones. The difference is one has the 75-300 USM lens and the other has the 55-250 IS lens. The ability of the 55-250 with the IS (image stabilization) seems to be a great feature but does it really make that much difference with blurryness in pics. Or is there really not much different in the 300 vs 250 as far as zooming. The price difference is minimal, I'm just not sure which one to get.

Any advice would be appreciated, thx.

.

Get the 55-250IS telephoto lens, it is much, much better. But instead of the T3 have you though about the slightly older T3i (550D) ? It has more features and considered better than the entry level T3 (1100D) and with the 18-55IS lens it's $629 at the Canon direct store

Thanks Bob, I'll check into the T3i. I was going to pay $729 for the T3 with both lenses, case, extra battery, tripod, flash card and some other accessories. I'll see what the other prices out at.

ETA: Oh well, I just checked out the T3i and it looks like it is about $300 more. Need to draw the line on the budget so it looks like I will have to stay with the T3. Thanks for the advice on the lens.

I just bought the T3i with 2 extra lenses, a bag, 16gb memory card, and lens cleaning kit for $999. It sounded like a good deall and Ive never had a DSLR so I bought it. Got it today actually in the mail.

Even if it's the "better' 75-300 ... the one with the USM ... this is probably still Canon's *worst* lens. The non-USM one being, most likely, the only thing worse.

The 55-250IS is far superior to the 75-300 in sharpness and overall IQ.

I have the 55-250 IS and I only used it once (AK on the safari in the rain). My 18-135 IS did a great job for me. I would opt for a better camera and one walkaround lens... but thats just my opinion.
