Companion Restrooms

Just got back from Epcot. The companion restroom near Canada was atrocious. The sink's water pressure was low, ran out of paper towels, and water all over the floor.

I thought it was isolated, but later on, went to the companion bathroom near Electric Umbrella and also saw water everywhere (To the point where there was a small puddle my LO started jumping in). I realize that this is probably due to one gross people who went to the bathroom before us, but just had a bad experience.

I wish Disney had a way to report the Canada bathroom on their MDE or something. I did not see any employees near Canada other than the people selling food/drinks.

If it had been me, I probably would have reported it to the people in the gift shop, as they would have access to phones or other methods to report it to the proper department. I'm not sure people at the kiosks selling snacks and drinks would be able to do so quickly.

This is the best thing to do. Getting ahold of custodial isn't hard.

And yeah, I don't think the people at kiosks have either phones or radios, but someone in a shop or restaurant location definitely would.

I would report it to the first Custodial CM you see(They are the CMs in all white uniforms)-they can let the appropriate CMs know.

It doesn't have to be a Custodial CM in that area.

I am basing this on the small park I work at but the kiosks would be more likely to radio than a busy shop. How do you think they get more items when they need? it is not by someone coming by and checking

Since I have watched kids play with the sinks and splashing water at each other, have seen grown women throw paper towels on the ground instead of in the nearly empty trash, and pee on the seats because some people are too afraid to sit down it doesn't surprise me to come across messy bathrooms. The CMs can only be in so many places at once and when you have people with no care about the messes they are making, it can happen that a bathroom gets ruined before a CM can get to it again. It stinks that people can be so disrespectful to their surroundings and to other people.

I would have slipped onto the store and let a CM in there know about the restrooms condition. It would have take only a moment.

Yes, it is actually someone coming by and checking. I've seen it numerous times while waiting for my husband or son a ride.

The store would probably have a phone. They wouldn't need to use the radio, they would simply pick up the phone.

our phone would not help as someone would have to be at office to answer phone no cell phones on park. and yes they come by and check but when you need something you call on radio. ask the CM how they let someone know about lost child. I know a different problem but same idea do you wait for someone to come by to let someone know.

I've worked outdoor vending and kiosk/stands shifts on occasion at MK and DAK and had no radio or phone. A supervisor came by periodically to check up on me, bring someone to relieve me for breaks, etc.

what were you to do if a parent came to you about a lost child as I know you can not leave your stand?

They absolutely are checked. As a former Custodian in the MK, on days when I was assigned to restrooms I was given a list and my job was to rotate between them all day. If any one of those restrooms wasn’t immaculate I would be in trouble.

I was never trained for that scenario since I only worked those locations as "extra hours" - they were never my statused job, I just had the required proficiencies to work overtime there.

I'm sure there's an established procedure for people who work those positions regularly, I just don't know it.

I know the stand CM I talked to when grandson got separated from us had some type of radio and I would have been at GS if that CM had not been able to do something as it was at park closing and not near anything else to let it be known. and yes I did notice the name tag name because I was worried that she would not be able to do anything without a phone

I'm glad the CM you talked to was able to help you with your lost grandson.

It's still a fact that not all stands/kiosks/outdoor vending CMs have phones and/or radios, and all indoor food service and merchandise locations definitely have a phone.

I'm kinda done with this thread since the OP's question has long been answered. Goodnight. :)

Where is the companion restroom near Canada?

I agree, I would have reported it. All it takes is one person to make a mess. It is appalling some people can't use a restroom and not leave a mess behind.

And I think the slobs are getting worse. I cannot imagine how teh CM's can keep up with that thankless job whiel adults are tossing paper on the floor, using theri feet to flush (God Forbid they take a tissue and then toss it in the bowl or trash) sending water flying all over, and hovering like a copter so they do not need to use a seat cover.

You can say it's the fault of guests. But we have no idea how Disney's staffing in this area has changed through the years. Have they even tried to staff up and visit the restrooms more often? Because they most assuredly know people are messier than ever before. But for all we know, they could have cut back on staffing in this area despite having higher needs than ever before. Ultimately I blame people for a one off incident, but I blame Disney if there's a trend toward messier guests and messier restrooms in general.

I agree that staffing cutbacks would magnify any messy bathroom, but honestly, you see the slobs. When I worked in a call center I was appalled at the number of women who would throw paper on the floor rather than reach for a bin, and I cringed many times when I would enter a stall. Grown women throwing sanitary products in a bowl and then leaving it to back up, who would leave teh seat looking like an outhouse. Shameful! I am in a small office now and the women share a "normal" bathroom. WE all keep it clean because there is no anonymity when only 5 women use a room.

Oh, I'm not doubting the slobs. At all. But unless Disney expects us to start picking up after the slobs that come before us, or unless they find a way to stop slob behavior (open to suggestions on that one) then they have no choice but to staff up to handle the additional mess. Ultimately it's their facility and they have to do what it takes to keep it under control.

I agree it has a lot to do with staffing. The crowds have increased and staffing seems to have decreased which equals lower cleanliness standards. With increased crowds, there are naturally more messes and yes, people are slobs and leave bathrooms a mess. If they are going to focus on increasing crowds, they need to staff for it. IMO I get that the bean counters want to save every penny and this, unfortunately, is a way to do that.
