Next week our final payments are due for our December trip. My father has been slowly declining in his health and I know this is our last chance to visit WDW with him. This week my mother has expressed extreme concern about traveling with him. He has become incontinent in certain situation (not all the time), but when it's time, it's time. He does wear Depends but DM is afraid that it will be traumatic and humiliating for him (and her) if we cannot get to a restroom quickly.

I know WDW has restrooms all over, but I'm wondering if there are any references where I can find the companion restrooms marked. Since it will just be myself and my mom, we would not be able to help Dad, if the circumstance mandates it, if we need to, in a normal restroom.

I thought showing my mother that we would be able to get somewhere quick would allay her fears. Otherwise, I'm afraid my last trip with Dad will have to be cancelled.

Thanks for any help!

Tell Dad not to worry-here is a list to the companion restrooms. Also know that each park has a first aid with a companion restroom as well.

At each Park you can get a Guidemap For Guests With Disabilities. These show the locations of all the companion restrooms, while the regular Park maps only show the regular restrooms.

It' way to late for me to still be up - but, wanted to point you toward a link in post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread which has information about Companion Restrooms - including pictures and descriptions of some.

that we are way pass using only Depends. There are other products way better. To mention one there is Moliform and they come as four different styles. It's a liner that's huge and designed to retain more than a Depend. You may be able to order them from a medical supply store; we do it ourselves via internet. You can also build them up with booster pads and then you have a near perfect product for retention. We have never had an embrassing moment to date with this product; whereas, Depends can leak through depending on the flow.

I think the best answer for you will be to keep your dad on a schedule with a bathroom. This really helps more than anything else. Always make sure you take him to your resort/equivalent bathroom just before you depart for the day to the parks. Depending how bad it is I would say every two to four hours head for a bathroom at the parks. Make it sound like you need to go, too. I wouldn't depend on him to tell you on time always. You may be in an awkward place at times and a companion bathroom could be far away. Watch his drinking at the parks and coordinate the bathroom visits with it. Eating is a another time to go to a restroom. We almost never pass up a companion restroom. We do ask my mom and sometimes we skip one if she just went a half hour or hour beforehand.

There are enough companion restrooms through the park, but it's usually only one per area. Please be aware that they can be occupied and it can take a very long time sometimes to get your turn. No one is hogging the companion restroom; it's just that it can be very time consuming per each person using one. Everyone's circumstances are different. This is why sticking to a schedule is best.

I know I went beyond the original question; I'm sorry if it's way more info than you wanted to hear. We choose to deal with her conditions and make adjustments accordingly and we won't let her just stay at home like a prisoner.

Enjoy your vacation and try to make it worry free for your mom. I promise you there are many older people who have the same situation.

This. We're leaving in about 2 1/2 weeks, and I called and had the Guides for each park mailed to me in advance to make it easier to plan things.

Also, how often a day is he incontinent? Perhaps for the trip it would be a good idea for him to use a condom catheter? It goes over the ***** (his "man parts", silly censoring), and attaches via a tube to a collection bag that would strap on his leg. That way, when he's incontinent it will be collected in one place he just has to empty, rather than worrying as much about a depend leaking (I would still wear one in case the condom catheter came off) and would result in fewer if any instances of having to change himself in the parks. You'll need a prescription from the doctor to get these from a medical supply company, but I think it would be well worth asking about.
