Comp upgrades if stateroom # picked?

If you book and pick your stateroom (like on DCL website)--do you miss out on upgrade opportunities like with the GTY stateroom bookings?

Not at all, we rebooked on our first cruise picking specific rooms, two next door to each other, and got both rooms upgraded and they were still adjacent to each other. FYI, we booked 19 months in advance.

We got a room assignment the second we booked, 11 months in advance. DCL called our TA 8 days before we left and said we had been upgraded to another room, and to make sure to put THAT cabin number on our luggage tags.

I'm going to start wishing for a magical upgrade!! I already have our stateroom number, and our cruise is not until NEXT Christmas, but who knows, maybe we'll get upgraded to Walt's room!

We have adjoining rooms with assigned room numbers. Has anyone ever received an upgrade when you requested adjoining rooms?
