I'm watching Popeye on Disney cinemagic.
If Popeye is on Disney Cinemagic channel, and made by disney, then why is the ride not in WDW but it is in Islands of Adventure ....

I said to my Mom maybe theres 2 Popeyes. One by Disney one by another.
But she said no, theres only 1..

Comments please?

Yea, there's only one Popeye.
But Popeye wasn't made my Disney, they only partnered together via Digital Cinema Initiative, as well as 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures, Universal Studios, and Warner Brothers Studios.

As to why there aren't two rides, one at IOA and one at WDW, it's probably all due to copyright. Even though they are joined through Digital Cinema Initiative, Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World are still separate theme parks. You can't copy a ride from another theme park and not expect to get sued.

I don't think there are two. I think it's the same case where Disney has the rights to show a lot of shows seen on Disney XD now but they arent considered Disney characters where they'd make a ride for it.

Your mom was right--Popeye (I'm assuming you're talking about the spinach swilling sailor..I don't know of any other Popeyes) was not created by Disney, nor has Disney ever created any Popeye cartoons. The Popeye cartoons were created by Fleischer Studios, the same studio that created Betty Boop.

But Disney sometimes shows non-Disney cartoons. For example, Disney XD (f.k.a. Toon Disney) shows superhero cartoons like Spiderman and the Hulk, and shows Pinky and the Brain, which is a Warner Bros. cartoon.

Plus, as for your theme park question, just because Disney has the rights to air these cartoons, it doesn't mean that they can use them for just anything. They don't really own the cartoons--they just pay a small fee to show these cartoons on their channel. They don't have the right to create their own content (which is what creating a theme park ride would be).

Ok thank you.
I think i get it. :).
Lol.
Confusing tho. Showing the movie on disney channel but having the ride at IOA.
So they partnerd with someone else? Like Universal Studios. But technically Disney dont have rights. They just pay a small fee? To like show the film on there Channel?

Oh, so it was the Popeye movie? Okay, I thought it was the cartoon. But, yeah, everything else I said still applies.

This is the simple version, and in all reality it is really much more complicated as to who gets the money, what Disney is allowed to do with the movie, and all of that. But for simplicity's sake, this is basically how it happens:

The Fleischer family or whoever owned the rights to the Popeye character would have made an agreement with a movie studio to make the Popeye movie (I think it was Universal). So they make their movie.

Years down the road, Disney Television says "Hey! We don't have enough movies to show, and we need to get some variety." So they pay a small fee to Universal/the Fleischer family or whoever so that they can show the Popeye movie. It's sort of mutually beneficial--Disney gets more diverse programming, gets people who like the movie to watch their channel, etc., while Universal makes money off of their movie without having to do anything with it.

Again, I'm no industry insider, but from what I understand, this is basically how it works. Anyone else want to further clarify the process or correct any of my summary?
