Comment on my FastPass+ strategy

We are going to arrive in Orlando mid-afternoon and would like to go to Hollywood Studios. We are staying on site and I am going to book a FastPass for ToyStory Mania around 3pm-ish, around when we arrive. Can I book two throwaway FastPasses for earlier in the day and let them expire? And then when we get our of ToyStory Mania we can try to get FastPasses to Rock n Roller Coaster? How likely would we be able to get this same day FastPass? It is a low-crowd day (3 on touring plans).

You are unlikely to get both TSM and RnRC FPs on any particular day.

I believe that you are required to use all three FPs, not just pass them by. It's okay if you miss one but they will schedule a new one for you.

For example in Epcot where my family has the Test Track vs Soarin debate. We book one of them and try to get the other two to be quickies. They usually end up being Nemo and Figment. Neither of which ever have a line really and they are fairly close to one another. If you have a Test Track FP for 9:00-10:00 and you come off the ride at 9:30 the kiosk people come see if it is possible to move up your next one. So if you had a 10:00 start at Nemo maybe they can change it to 9:40. You go there ride that or get your magic band scanned and repeat with the next one.

Also, in this scenario if you are able to move Nemo they may be able to move Figment too.

After all that you can go back to see if Soarin or one of the other 1st tier experiences is available.

Although, what Mesaboy said is totally true, you probably won't get FPs for two headliners in one day.

Maybe use the single rider line for RnRC???

It's true that you must use your 3 fast passes. It doesn't just throw them away. We have missed FPs and then MDE prompted us to reschedule them. Honestly, I do not know if you can reschedule them for tier 1 attractions at that point, though. We've only ever missed them at MK. At HS, you could always book your TSMania FP time adjacent to FP locations like Little Mermaid FP that are nearby, check into them and then not actually stay for the show if it doesn't interest you. But, 3 pm is very late to get the 4th and 5th FP. Probably depends on the time of year you go.
