Comfortable Shoes for Work?

Although there are more comfortable shoes out there (unstylish), I like Clarks - especially Artisan styles, Born, or Merrels. They are a good compromise of cute and comfortable for teaching all day. Born can be inconsistent. I bought a pair last year that had a steeper heel incline that killed my feet by the end of the day.

Dansko/Sanitas are a must for me. Years of retail while in college and then pounding the floors in a hospital have taken their toll. I have seen them at Nordstroms. Try them on and order them if you can't find the style you like locally. They aren't the prettiest things, but so comfy once they are broken in. And last forever.

Fellow teacher here. Since many distrcits frown on wearing sneakers of any kind I'd check with your principal first. They all have a different interpretation. With that said, I love my Bare Traps. They are ultra comfortable, dressy enough and casual enough too. You can buy them at Belk if you have one. I have also worn Clarks. Both cost about $40 a pair on sale. I've heard many people talk about Danskins, but they are pricey. Hope this helps! :thumbsup2

I also have Dansko. They do take a bit of getting used to due to the "loose" fit that allows your heel to come out of the shoe a bit. Also, when you first put them on, you might think "what the heck?" because they are definitely not a soft shoe. But they must do the support right because I've never had my feet hurt in them.

OH MY...the first time I bought them I thought that!! I love my danskos!!
I work in a school cafeteria and that tile floor is a killer. My feet never hurt while wearing the Danskos

I am totally a Dansko fan, too. I am a restaurant manager, and I can easily be on my feet over 12 hours per day. Be careful when you buy Danskos now. In 2007, Dansko began using new manufacturers. The old Dansko is now being sold by Sanita.

PS - don't let the sticker shock get to you. Even at 12 hours a day, a pair of Danskos last me about a year. Definitely a good purchase!

When I used to work as a Chef I would wear Birkenstock clogs. They were so comfy. I wore the ugly professional ones but Birkenstock made a wide variety of styles. My clogs had a removable inner cork insole which took about 2 weeks to break in but once broken in I wore then 2 years often working 14 hours days before I needed to replace the insoles. These are shoes that I've had for 4 years and are pretty likely to last forever.

I am a teacher and only wear these. My feet never hurt. :thumbsup2
