Comfort Station Question

I searched to no avail, but have a question about the comfort stations. Walmart has men and women bathrooms and also a "family" bathroom, where you can take your kids of the opposite gender to avoid and embarrassing moments. I'm taking my 5 year old on a daddy-daughter camping trip next month and was wondering if the comfort stations have a "family" area similar to this for showering/bathing? If not, does anyone have any suggestions? She's still too young to go off on her own and I honestly didn't consider this before now when booking the trip.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Not sure if there are family bathrooms - we arrive for our first visit to the Fort on Sunday - but I used to have the same struggle with my son when I was a single parent until he got old enough.

Option 1 - I would say as long as the men's side doesn't have open urinals, where she might catch a glimpse of something, I think you'd be fine taking her in there with you and she can just use her own stall. At 5, I think she's still young enough where no one is going to question you or give you grief about it.

Option 2 - Let her use the women's side while you wait outside the door - obviously not like a stalker but close enough. At 5, she can handle going on her own, but you're close enough in case she needs you for some reason. Again, I don't think anyone would have issue with you being just outside the door and if they asked, you could just explain you're waiting for your younger daughter, who's inside.

Others may have other suggestions - or there may be those family bathrooms which negates the need for them anyway.

Enjoy your time with your daughter - what a fun vacation to take her on!

Unfortunately there are not family bathrooms. Let them know how useful they would be to single parents.

I was a single father of a special needs girl. What you can do is take her into the men's side after checking first if the coast is clear. That or just cover her eyes and walk her thru. Everyone of us has had to do it before and I don't think anyone would have a problem with you. For the shower I would always start it and then wait out outside the stall door for her to wash herself. Good luck it's great that you are doing the trip with her. She will remember it forever.

1) When one works there frequently, one feels like one owns it.

I think at 5, my DH's approach would look like this:

1) For bathroom needs, walk her to the restroom, and stand outside the ladies room while she goes in to do her business.

2) For showering needs, do an all clear check of the men's bathroom and walk her to the shower area. The showers are stall-type showers, with a separate changing stall. So, once in the changing/shower stall, she has privacy (and is separate from any other males in there showering).

This would only work of course if your DD5 is able to wipe herself thoroughly. The last thing you need is for her to get a rash!

You could also ask one of the mom's going into the restroom if they could help out...

And if she's seen you using the bathroom before, she won't even be curious about it. I see no reason to cover a child's eyes, they probably aren't looking anyway. And doing so may cause her to be more interested in looking.

Just thought of this...I'm pretty sure the toilets are all automatic flushing, so if she's scared of them like my dd is, you will likely need to be there to cover up the sensor anyway.

Anyway, if you don't make a big deal about it, she won't either.

This is a great answer! Your child and no man using the comfort station is going to be scarred by you taking your child in there. Make no big deal out of it and will all be fine

Like there are many of us with something easily seen at the urinal!!!!

Maybe this will help. When I went in June the Male bathroom was not very busy (can't say the same for the Femal side where my Wife, Daughters and Granddaughters often had to wait). I believe if you went in and said that you were bringing a little girl in they would respect that and either finish up or wait a little while. The showers are private so I would just say that you have a little girl with you. It is Disney I would be highly surprised if anybody would complain or not understand.
