Beautiful horse! I'm a bit jealous. I always ALWAYS wanted one but my mom and dad didn't like me. LOL LOL

Please don't take this wrong - but MY 1st thought looking at the picture was "Gwendolyn looks like a supremely happy well-fed girl that isn't running ANYWHERE with that baby! :lmao: (Wasn't familiar with the breed and did a quick Google search before posting this - quite amazing animals, aren't they?)

Always loved horses, took riding lesson 100 yrs ago (funny story about that) but never had the pleasure of owning one. I now live in the "Horse Capital of the US" and have discovered so many amazing breeds - Haflinger, Paso Fino, Gypsy Vanner, Andalusian. You've now introduced me to Norwegian Fjords. :worship:

I envy you guys! :)

My dd's an eventer and her pony has followed her to college. His room and board is costing me almost as much as hers does! I'll see if I can dig up a picture and post it.

So here's my horse story after years of living with a horse girl: whenever I talk to my toddler these days and he does something I want him to do, I always say "Good Boy" in exactly the same tone my dd uses with her pony when he does a jump well or whatever.

Lol... She is a Couch! Fat and Lazy! Most of the time, she isnt going anywhere! lol They are a draftier breed and some can be very stocky..If I can find the picture, I will post her daddy!"

Here's a golden oldie picture of me and "Lou" (a Belgian Draft) at the Ohio State Fair:

OhioStateFair.jpg

I was nervous and my shiny dress made me slide from side to side across the seat so I was fighting that the whole time we showed, but Lou was calm as a cucumber and even fell asleep waiting for the judge to get to us. :cutie:

My IL's raised Belgians - at one time they had 70+ (plus a couple of Swedish Warmblood crosses thrown in for good measure!) They had an AI lab and shipped semen from their stallions all across the world - I remember them FEDEXing lots to Japan for some reason.

Over the years (long ago) my DH and I had a Quarter Horse (Poco Bueno), a Tennessee Walker (Dan'l Boone), a Palomino (Goldilocks), and a Peruvian Paso (Ostentoso). I have to say I do miss having horses, but not all the work.

Now that we live in Florida I never have to break the ice on the water tank

This is me when I was about 8 or so on my pony, Sir James. He was part Shetland, part Welsh, and was fantastic. I used to have people offering to buy him out from under me at shows.

...and this is one of my parents' Arabians with some chickens sitting on him. Back then, they were smart enough to figure out that a great way to stay warm in the winter was by roosting on the horses' backs. Some of them would stay on when the horses were let out into the back pasture in the morning, riding the horses on out of the barn. The chickens they have now aren't the sharpest tacks in the box, so this apparently has never occurred to them.

What a great thread! I love seeing everyone's horses. OP, you're very lucky to be able to ride that beautiful horse whenever you like.

My DDs ride, but we don't own a horse.

Here is my younger DD, then 10, at a show in South Carolina.

and here's the older one at that same show.

The horse is named Sultan's Miracle Man. He belongs to DD13's best friend. He's a beautiful horse, but wow, he cost more than my car! LOL!!

(and we did purchase these pictures, but I'd rather it be known that they are copyrighted)

One of my boys, Buddy, being ridden by one of my working students at a show:

Buddy is a 16 year old Appendix QH. He had a long and storied past but ended up with me after I saved him from a bad situation. He has movement to die for and a jump to match, but he's a bit persnickety undersaddle. I save him for my advanced students to ride and show. I also do dressage with him.

My Belgian, Homer:

Homer is 19 years old and used to be a carriage horse in NYC. We rescued him from a sham rescue group that was taking these carriage horses and giving them a "permanent" home, when in reality they were renaming the horses and selling them for profit. He was half starved and covered in wounds when I found him. Paid $1000 to save him from those people.

...and I apologize for the crap quality of this one. It's one of my mom's horses, also an Arabian; she was named Ariel and unfortunately died four or five years ago.

Yay for the saddle seat photos!

I don't have any photos of me riding on this computer, but I used to compete in Western, English and Saddle Seat in middle school and high school. I leased my horses, but managed to get my dad into it and so he ended up buying 2 eventually (both against my suggestion, but there you have it). He currently has a Standardbred ex-pacer. I had to put down his (technically our) National Show Horse this past spring while my dad was on vacation. Currently, I don't have either the money or the time to invest in horses, but I'd love to get back into riding again some day.

I know a Saddlebred when I see one! Who is your instructor? I rode for 10 years in KY, and sold my latest walk/trot mare Miss Believin'.

Tanks! I'll have to dig out the pics of my other guys. My students love to ask me who my favorite horse is. I always tell them it's like asking a parent who their favorite kid is!

I don't have pictures but I have stories...:)
When I was around 8 I was riding a humungous guy named Steamboat on a trail ride with my cousins. Everyone got off their horses and were enjoying the forest. I was waiting for someone to help me off the big guy. Turns out there was a bear in the area(not uncommon up here) the horses smelled him and got spooked and at least half a dozen of them take off in a full galop back to the stables....including me and Steamboat. I don't think I had ever been so scared in my life....anyways it makes for a good story every now and then at family dinners. haha
I think that was the last time I have been on a horse, I may just conquer that demon soon as DD loves, loves horses!
One more short story...I worked at a private ranch with some interesting horses. They had a mare that was 38 years old! That horse was like a statue...lol They also had a half miniature horse, half shetland pony named Ben who was very cute and probably weighed in at around 400#.
What I did there was build an office/recreational area that had the look of a barn. Also put up 6000 feet or horse fencing! That's about 600 pressure treated wooden posts...and a lot of clearing trees.

And here is some of my loves. Most of my horses are elderly. From 35 down. DH and I love them all very much, they are family.:):)

My father was an artist and here is some of his work. He drew many, many horses for a living. You can see a few in this shot from my living room.
