is there any way to record the programs you have saved on here to free up space?

I don't believe so. I think your only choice is to view the program, and while doing so perhaps you can hook up your DVD recorder, if you have one, and record it onto DVD.

I have a TiVo that has a DVD recorder built-in. Whenever I'm running low on space on my DVR, I just burn the shows onto DVD-RW for later viewing.
