Well...if they end up buying substantial amounts of property (enough to build another park and several more hotels) would Disney *finally* start to worry? In your opinion, of course.
If Comcast moves Further Into the production/acquisition of "content", they see real expansion in parks and retail sales, and they get bigtime into the "next" generation of delivery systems?
Then yes...I could see them buying property/cutting deals with the city, county, state to expand.
I'm in Orlando alot but seldom drive around Kirkman...I can't remember the potential for purchase/build in the area. It's fairly tight.
I so remember about ten years ago that they had plans for two onsite large scale hotels and a water park...we now have the two hotels. But that was two owners ago...
in that plan parks were not a big deal (this being fairly recent after IOA and citywalk)
Comcast has come to play at the parks...but they don't have the size advantage.
The single greatest move that the Disney brothers ever did - one can argue - was the swamp gobble in Florida in 1964-65.
It's been stated many times over...but I still think it's understated.
That is "real estate" in it's truest sense...it's worth tens of billions of dollars in potential now.
And it was a semi-toxic waste
Dump filled with snakes and gators... Who'd a thunk?
Too bad america doesn't do things like this anymore...
Remember: fundamentally Comcast is scared without poo poo that there business model will crumble with the end of cable and expansion of wireless point to point telecom. It is inevitable. But unlike Eastman Kodak...they seem to have tried to get ahead of the game instead of steaming towards the iceberg.
EDIT:
On second thought...that would incredibly tough to do...on the satellite there is very little room for expansion...unless they get a relocation of dr Phillips high and buy orange tree country club.
A second site development would be unlikely
