Im paying my monthly bills, going over my statements and I noticed my Comcast bill has a very odd Fee and being charge for a "regional sports fee" of $3.00, it wasn't on my previous statement .
I don't have any sports packages on my Comcast bundle, why is it there.
Has anybody else had this problem and can you get it removed ?

TIA

I just checked my bill and I don't have that fee.

I don't have that charge either, but I have limited basic cable.

I did find this in their help/faq. You might need to be logged in to see it.

Regional Sports Network Fee
The Regional Sports Network Fee is an itemized fee that recovers a portion of the costs of distributing regional sports networks to customers receiving our Digital Starter and XFINITY TV 450 Latino tiers of service.

Lee it's very deep within the bundle package I have according to the agent from Comcast ,asked to have it removed but she wouldn't remove it.

Those RSN fees are more or less charging you to help pay for the local major league sports to be on those channels (being your local Comcast Sports Channel or Fox Sports Channel, whatever is in your area).

Myself being with DirecTV my local RSN fee in my area of Michigan would be $4.93/MONTH (a friend who lives on Long Island pays almost $7). The only way to get them off is to go to a package that doesn't offer the RSNs, which DirecTV has. Comcast might offer a package without those channels in your area. If not you are stuck paying those fees.

I've been charged for Disney family Movies ($5.99) for years. I have no idea how it got on there and I know that I have called at least once to have it removed....nope, still there...and I do not even have access to the channel:headache:. I love the internet service but the cable is ridiculous. I pay $160/month and I have very basic cable.... no HD, and only one adapter. We have a limited number of OnDemand shows, but recently, those shows require some sort of subscription which we do not have. I'm honestly quite fed up, but we need the internet and it is by far the fastest service in the area. Every time I try to call, I'm on hold forever and I have to hang up and move one.

I would definitely try to call back, or if possible just go in to the local office. I have basic cable & hbo (one box/one tv) and blast intertnet for $73.99 / month. I'm on Comcast in South Jersey if regional pricing matters. The plan is a 2 year special pricing, so I need to call back near the end of my two years to try to renegotiate, but at least it is guaranteed for 2 years.

I was just charged this fee for the very first time as well, but mine is $9.00. My next call to Comcast will not be to question this fee, but to drop them entirely.

I just got that added on my Verizon Fios, its $5.89 on mine. I have Root Sports, which is our regional sports channel.

I googled it and seems like it's not just Comcast that charges for it. I have U-verse but I haven't looked at our bill to see if we're charged something like it.

From the article I was reading about regional sports fees it said this about Comcast:

"if you’re a Comcast customer, you’re paying regional sports fees for them to bring you… Comcast-owned stations."

Also appearantly the fee related to Comcast was introduced in early 2015 so it's not really new but it could just be appearing on your bill depending on where you live. The article explains that it started out at around $1 per month when it was introduced but has gone up over time.

Call up and ask them to remove the bogus charge. If they refuse cancel your cable. Paying hundreds of dollars every month for the privilege of watching commercials is simply crazy.

We recently left Comcast due to their terrible attempts to charge fees we didn't pay. Call them right away, and if that doesn't work post on their forums on their web site. My husband did this when they tried to charge us an $80 equipment fee for a home phone we never had when we cancelled with them ad we had results by the end of the day. Guess they suddenly can figure out how to refund you when you post online about it for all of their other customers to see- ha!

I think all the company's will charge what ever they think they can get away with. I have to have internet and a land line. I think we all are being over charged. We just need to keep checking our bills and make sure nothing new is added. It is so sad anymore. I would call and talk to top people and by pass the standard csr person.

I just have the Comcast internet. They lied to me and told me my internet bill would be raised when I canceled cable. I told them fine cancel that too. They asked what they could do to keep my business and I told them I refused to pay more than $40 per month. They "found" a plan that works for me. That was 8 years ago and my monthly bill has never increased.

We used to do that for years in a row with U-verse. We would tell them we were going to Time Warner (the biggest in our area at that time-they still have rights to basically most cable outlets in apartment buildings around us) when our rate would go up and they would relock us into a year plan at a lower rate.

Then when Google Fiber came around they had a bit more competition. We actually were going to go to Google Fiber (my husband wanted to I did not) but they messed up our yard and many others during the digging part to install the first part and were sucky at trying to make things right. What annoyed me is we didn't have a choice to say no.

Anywho U-verse came out with their version of the fastest speed to compete with Fiber so we called them up to threaten to cancel and they upgraded us (for a heck of a lot more speed) for $5 more per month than what we are spending and rate locked us for 3 years but with only a 1 year contract. Downside is they had to replace our DVR box so we lost those recordings but on the plus side the DVR box has like 360 hrs (or something close to that) of HD space.

It's nice though for you that your rate hasn't gone up in that amount of time.

ETA: I should note that with U-verse if you call you will likely get someone in India (not making a mean comment just making a statement) however if you threaten to cancel they would automatically transfer you to a team in the U.S. (at least it was this way in the past).

If you have anything higher than basic local channels, you will be charged the sports fee and it won't be removed. It's because the cost of sports channels themselves have gone up (ESPN is the highest per-channel cost at $6/month) and because they can. Just like the Broadcast Fee :sad2:.

The thing which annoys me the most about bundled cable fees is subsidizing sports programs when no one in my family watches them. I wish we could pay for only the channels we want.
