Combining points?

Hi,
Just trying to get all my ducks in a row before I proceed with a point transfer. Can I combine points that I get in as a transfer with my points to make a reservation? Say I need 84 points to reserve a Grand Villa but only have 50. Can I get a transfer from someone else for the other 34 and combine them to make the 84 needed for the room?

Yes, you can. Just keep in mind a transfer is a one time shot and DVC members can only do a transfer once a year.

Make sure that the points you are getting are valid for the dates you plan to reserve.

For example, if you want an OKW GV and plan to reserve before the 7 month widow opens, you'll need to get OKW points.

Also make sure that the use year of the points contains the dates you plan to reserve. You can bank transferred points, but AFAIK, you cannot borrow them.

If you are not sure if the transfer will work, ask MS and if possible, make the reservation on the same call that you do the transfer.

If you want to book as early 11 mos through 7months + 1day before checkin date in order to take advantage of your Home Resort's priority booking window then those points that you want to transfer in to your account must be from the same resort as your Home Resort.

For booking a Grand Villa it would be best to take advantage of Home Resort priority booking window. Otherwise, if you transfer in points from a DVC resort that isn't same as your HR you would have to wait until 7 month booking window to make your reservation that would combine the transferred points with your points.

Thank you all for the replies. I do plan on getting the points for my home resort or all the points I need for another resort. I thought I understood most of this, but I keep coming up with more questions!
