if you buy a second (or third, etc) contract, and want it all put into one account, what are the requirements?

1. Same UY (Is this a must?)
2. Titled the same - and this is my question - does that mean if 2 people own contract A, both people must also own contract 2, or can only one of the two own it?

TIA

Must be same UY.

Must be titled exactly the same. Names in same order and same spelling. If new contract different owners (or different number of owners) from the other contract(s), it will result in a new membership for that contract.

FWIW, I was told at one point by member admin that the name order didn't matter. I wouldn't want to test it, though. Definitely the exact spelling, including middle initials vs. written-out middle name, etc. matters.

UY is a given, names need to match due to security and ownership reasons.

If you have two people on one contract and one on the other, there is no way for DVC to restrict access to the person who isn't on the second contract. They would be able to make reservations using all contracts and modify the account even though they are only on title for one.

It depends what you mean by "one account." If the contract is titled differently, you will have a different login to the member website. If you just have different use years, you will have one login, but the points will be managed separately under that login. If you want to combine points seamlessly, then the names and use year need to match.

This has been my experience.

Declared tenancy also had to be the exact same for the contracts to be combined , besides the same UY, and names worded EXACTLY the same.

I was thinking about this the other day. If I wanted to add on to my current contract and purchased in the same UY with the same wording on the title could I combine them and then if I wanted to resell it later would it be all one contract or would it still be the original point amounts?

Also, is it possible to downsize by a certain number of points or would you have to sell off a contract and then purchase a new one if you wanted less points (not that anyone would want less points)

You cannot merge or split individual contracts. You can only sell a whole contract.

This discussion is more based on how contracts appear and are used within a membership account. With the same deeded names and use year, and especially with the same home resort, you'd never notice that they weren't the same contract, but they won't be legally combined from a real estate perspective.

I haven't done this but as I understand it...Same resort, same use year, same title wording, the points can be combined in the DVC system to make for simplified user account management. They remain separate contracts and each individual contract remains whole and cannot be broken into smaller pieces or made larger with additional points. This is why small contracts usually cost more per point. DVD can subdivide a contract, but not resellers. If you wanted to downsize a little you would have to sell a larger contract and buy a smaller one. I've never bought direct, but if I did it would be no more than 50 point contracts to give me the most flexibility.

They would be combined for usage if the same resort and under the same master. On of the issues is that combining isn't guaranteed even when you follow the steps suggested. You would be able to sell them independently though. You would not be able to break them down further.

What about a different resort?

I understand that they are never really combined legally, I am more thinking in terms of 2 different resorts, same pool of points, to be used at the 7 months mark.

Or, 2 contracts same resort, to be used at 11.

Different resorts will work seamlessly at the 7 month mark if on the same member account as long as they are combined on the same master membership and deeded the same with the same UY..

Contracts are listed in your account, you select the contract(s) to use and in which order when you book the reservation. 11 months out for home resort points and 7 months out for all others.

I have another question related to this.

If you have purchased points through Disney, and add points for the same resort and UY purchased via resale, will the ability to use the original points for cruises, etc. be identified separately?

yes.

you would need direct pts for trading for cruises. (but it's really not a great value, especially relative to the extra you'd have to pay to buy direct.)

Supposedly yes, according to the imposed restriction.
