I just booked Disneyland for early Sept, and they gave a combined discount - Disneyclub is offering the 4th night free deal in a package that has a 5-day hopper ticket (for the price of 3) for lots of dates (see last Disneyclub mailer).

The interesting part is that if you use your Disney Visa, they give you an extra $25 off the package. I had read on Mousesavers that it couldn't be combined, but they did.

Not a bad deal. 5 days, 4 nights in a standard at Disneyland Hotel including tickets for 2 adults came to $910. Cool.

I called back because after I thought about it, that price seemed high. They hadn't applied the Disney Club discount to the package. The guy applied that discount, and the price came down to $813. Good deal!

I'm also looking to book a trip for Sept and have DC as well as the Visa. It sounds like your room is around $151 a night. Assuming you purchased two adult So Cal AP's at $105 each, that makes the cost of the room $603. Spread over 4 nights is $150.75. Is this a good deal? It may be for the DL Hotel.

Personally, I'm looking at booking at the Howard Johnson for $69 for a savings of $327 from the package price you quoted. Actual savings would be greater because you'd be saving an additional $40 or so on taxes, so say a total of $367. You could think of it as an extra $75 spending money in the park each day!

Just something to think about. Have you been to DL before? The general consensus seems to be that it's not as desirable to stay on site there as it is at WDW. The Disney resorts are certainly nice, but there are some quite acceptable non-Disney hotels right across the street.

Enjoy your trip!

Just wanted to say that I really don't mean that it's not desirable to stay at the Disney hotels at DL - just that it's not as necessary to a lot of people as it is at WDW. Hope that makes sense. :) Seems like I've heard of lots of people who only stay at a Disney hotel at WDW, but they're perfectly happy at certain non-Disney hotels at DL.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am from Virginia, so no So. CA annual pass, though the per night price you're quoting is about right. I've never been to Disneyland, or California, and only ever stay on property when I'm in Florida, which is often.

To me, the extra money is worth the staff, the theming, the soap, the Disney TV, all the things that make it Disney. To some people that probably seems silly, but to me, it's part of what makes it a total Disney immersive vacation.

Besides, a trip to Disneyland to me is as much for historic value of seeing the original, and where it all began, as much as for a Disney vacation in general. With that in mind, what better place to stay than the original Disneyland Hotel? :)

I'll save the Howard Johnson for the non-Disney vacations.... though probably not even then.... I've honed my hotel tastes at the Deluxes at WDW, and it's turned me into a total hotel snob. But I do love my vacations. I'm looking at the Loews at Santa Monica for the rest of the trip. Know anything about the place? The pictures look great on the website.

Just so you know, anyone can purchase the So Cal AP. We're from Texas, and purchased it at the park last Nov. It is blacked out on Saturdays in Sept, and probably also the entire Labor Day weekend, though I'm not sure. The Howard Johnson is probably comparable to the moderates at WDW, if not a step up. But it would not be the DL Hotel! Enjoy your stay!

Be sure to wander around the hotel a bit. We've eaten at Goofy's Kitchen there, and I remember there being some neat displays around.
