Columbus Day Weekend?

We are looking at going to Universal in October of 2013. We are thinking about Columbus Day weekend. Has anybody gone at this time? How are the crowds? Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

I've gone on that weekend for the last two years and will be doing so again this year. It's a good time to go. I mainly pick it for Halloween Horror Nights, which usually runs Thursday through Sunday, but I also do the parks. Crowds will be light to moderate, save for Saturday and Columbus Day- unless you're going in the morning, avoid those days. Also keep in mind that the Studios will get busier around 3-ish, when the HHN crowd shows up to get some rides in before the park closes for the event. Hope this helps!

We are doing the HHN also! We plan on flying in on a Thursday night. Any thoughts on which night for HHN? I heard that most of Florida has school on Columbus Day so I was thinking on going on Sunday night.

sunday night during the columbus day weekend is a busy and crowded at hhn.
last year the hours for hhn ended at 1:00 am.......
years prior it had a midnight closing as being a non peak night.

so, just saying that sundays are no longer the ideal night to hit hhn if you want to avoid crowds.
thursdays also a non peak night has less peeps there for hhn.

totally agree with lycaon.
that's exactly how it is for that weekend.

this year will be my 8th in a row for being at hhn during the columbus day weekend.
my priority is hhn for that time period on the nights it is offered.

columbus day the past 2 years have had heavier crowds in the daytime.
but, it is manageable.
if you are staying onsite, you won't have any line issues for that weekend period.

I guess I have to see about changing the night then. Like I said we fly in on Thursday night, around 7 pm by the time we get to the hotel and checked in it will be 8. I don't think that will work. At least I have plenty of time to think about it.

Columbus Day is later in the month in 2013. Can you tell me what nights they usually have the HHN? Thanks for the info!

if you arrive at the hotel at 8 on thursday night, you will lose so much time at hhn.
stick with your original plans of going on a sunday.
you don't want to miss any of the fun and going on sunday is better than not going at all!

2013 for hhn is over a year away.
things can change betwen now and then.

For day time crowds at the parks...yes. Low crowds and usually nice weather.
