Any idea what I can expect on Columbus Day for crowds? I didn't really want to go during a holiday, but had no choice. We are traveling with friends who could only make it that week. Columbus Day is not really a big deal around here (we certainly don't get a holiday from school or work for it), but I know it is a bigger deal on the east coast.

Anyway, my UG says the crowds should be fine, but I'm still a bit concerned. Any advice from anyone? Should we avoid certain parks?

DH and I have always gone during the Columbus Day weekend since our anniversary is right around it every year. The crowds really are not that bad - nothing like summer or holiday crowds. The one thing we avoid though is MK on the Saturday of the holiday weekend - it is really busy and we just don't enjoy ourselves. We just pick another park for that day. Have a great time.

Thanks dixiegirl! We are arriving on Saturday, so that shouldn't be a problem, wouldn't go to the parks that day, anyway. We have CRT ressies on Columbus Day itself, and I was thinking that the Magic Kingdom is probably the worst park to be in on that day. But if you haven't had too much trouble, I'll set my worries aside!!

Thanks again!

I'm from WI, same as the OP and like she said Columbus Day is not a big holiday here - workplaces & schools all open. Don't understand why it's such a big deal in other areas of the country when the day goes by without any notice here. That said, we were at Disney the week before Columbus Day last year and we did notice that the crowds got larger toward the end of the week. I'm guessing from those who thought they'd take the Friday vacation day to get the 4 day weekend with the holiday.

Hey fellow Badger! We are arriving the Saturday of Columbus Day weekend - so we'll only have to deal with the issue on Sunday and Monday. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it's not much worse than the rest of the week. We have 6 kids between 3 families, the oldest of which is 5 - we could be spending a LOT of time at the pools!!
