I was told that CHH was only open sometimes and it depended upon the season. I wanted to try it and hoped it would be open for my upcoming trip the first week of Jan. Does anyone know if it will be?
Hmmmm...I hope someone can help. It's always been open when I go (late spring, summer, fall, holidays); of course, I can't go during the really "off season" times.
Whoever told you that must have been thinking of some other restaurant, because CHH is open any time, with the exception of routine maintenance closures which occur at all the WDW restaurants. I haven't heard about any upcoming CHH maintenance closures, so you should be in luck.
It's always been open when we've gone. If you go and the upstairs is open go upstairs -- hardly anyone does and it's amazingly quiet. You can actually sit overlooking the pathway from Fantasyland to Liberty Square.
We eat there every trip and have never seen it closed. I have been at all different times of year. We ate there last January (1st week). Also suggest you eat upstairs (we also did last year), great to find a seat by window and enjoy a relaxing meal. The bathrooms upstairs are very nice too, good time to freshen up.
I agree that the upstairs is the place to go at Columbia Harbor House. I read this tip on these boards and used it in June. The downstairs was a complete madhouse while the upstairs was so quiet....and empty! They also have rest rooms up there. The perfect place to enjoy your lunch. Note that there are no signs about the upstairs dining room. Just walk up the stairs and you will be amazed at the difference. I really don't think most people know you can go up there.
As you can see in my signature, I've been there at different times of the year, and I've never seen it closed. El Pirata y el Perico has been closed seasonally and last time the Noodle Station was closed for some reason It was mid to late May, so some of their College Program CMs were probably gone.
While I've never seen CHH not be open at all, I have on several occasions seen it close early in the off season (like maybe 4:00 or 5:00). It makes it kind of hard to plan on for an evening meal when that happens, but I'm sure you could find out earlier in the day whether or not it will be open in the evening by asking either at Guest Relations or at CHH itself.
I have never seen it closed, but have seen the 2nd floor closed during slow times. We were there the 3nd week Nov, when the parks were not crowded and they had the 2nd floor sitting area blocked off. It is one of my favorite counter service restuarants.
