for those who do this, do you take a shower to rinse out the hair dye or do you bend over the sink to wash it out? I am finding it awkward to color the back of my head and washing over the sink, I feel like it will all get in my eyes.

Shower. I rinse it out, put on the post color conditioner, wash the rest of me and then rinse the conditioner out. I do have a shower head that I can take down and use as a handheld if I choose to, but I don’t seem to need that when rinsing it out. I do keep a towel hanging where I can reach it if I need to dry my face after the initial rinse, which is pretty normal.

I have a very small bathroom sink, and would get dye all over the place if I tried to do it in the sink.

I rinse in the sink, but then again, that's how I always wash my hair. Although I've never tried it in the shower, I'd think wiping the splashed dye off the tiles would be a real pain and it might even stain the grout.

I just finished doing this an hour ago, lol. I use the handheld over the tub/shower and rinse it off that way. I didn't need another shower, so did it the easier way this time

My mom always rinsed her off in the laundry tub.

I take a shower and rinse it out in there.

I always rinse it in the utility sink in the basement. I’ve never done it in the shower . I figured it would be dangerous to get the dye on your body . It sounds like a lot of people do it that way though .

It's not anymore dangerous that having it on your scalp for 30 minutes.

I used to kneel down in the tub and flip my head forward and rinse it under the tub spout, then stand up and take a shower after applying the conditioner. Just didn't want to have to clean spatter off the tiles afterwards.

And I always thought many rinsed off over the sink. I have always done this. I recently found out my DIL's mom rinses it off while showering. I had never thought of rinsing in shower for the same reasons mentioned here - getting dye all over body and staining tile walls.

I can still do it over the sink and have no issues but will start as soon as I find it harder and harder to bend over the sink. My DH helps me get the dye in the back of my head.

I think the ease of this depends a lot on how tall one is and what style of sink faucet you have. I'm pretty short so it doesn't require too many contortions and I have the depth of bathroom sink and faucet style that let's me get my whole head under it so rinsing the back isn't difficult.

Always the shower. I have a handheld with different settings and use the one that directs a strong concentrated stream of water at my head which gets the dye out. I have long, thick curly hair and it takes a while. No trouble with staining my body or the tile. I do check once I am done to be sure there’s no dye on the shower walls or in the tub though. If I see anything I rinse it off right away.

Haven’t colored my hair at home in years, but when I did, I used the kitchen sink with the sprayer to rinse.
