So, my best friend (who lives far-far away from me) has asked me if I will crochet her mother in law an afghan, as the one she has on the back of her couch is apparently "disgusting". She has no suggestions regarding colors (the disgusting one is "rainbow and black", lol) so I was wondering if anyone would like to share a combo of 3 or 4 colors that they think would look nice in an afghan?

If it helps, the pattern I'm looking to possibly do will end up being a "round ripple" afghan, basically comes out looking like a many-pointed star, or pointy-petaled flower. I made one before, and they look lovely doubled on the back of a couch :)

Thanks in advance!

I always like getting different shades of the same colors. I f you don't do that get colors that are complimentary on the color wheel, like blues to purple to red. I tend to like pastels as opposed to dark colors. They seeme so cheery. The pattern sounds really nice. Good luck in the color search and have fun. Crafts like this are a lot of fun and greatly appreciated.

I would stick to a family of colors...ie varying shades of green or blue or purple depending on their decor. If I was doing greens I would probably throw in a tan or cream. With blues probably a grey. I would shy away from all pastels unless that is their decor.

Most likely to match anything would be graduated shades of beige. It won't show a lot of dirt, either.

I think I will stick with cream/beige/tan... might possibly add a muted green or blue in there, maybe. And I think it would look good in that pattern.

Thanks, y'all! Going to AC Moore tonight; they're having a really good sale on Vanna's yarn, I should be able to find what I need there. :thumbsup2

I had a "rainbow and black" one many MANY years ago! I think it was "granny square"? Oh dear.

What color is the couch/living room?

Heh, well, what I got is "either dark brown or black... or maybe dark blue?" My friend wasn't paying much attention. Her DH seems to think it's black...

What color was it originally? LOL

My nana made one that was orange/rust/brown/burgundy that is very nice. I'm working on one using rainbow yarn, but that wouldn't work for your pattern.

I would not be willing to make it until she tells you the color she wants. It's just too likely the colors you choose could be unacceptable as well.
