We are thinking about going to Colonial Williamsburg for a few days. How many days do you think would be enough time to spend there? Any hotel suggestions?

We were thinking of doing the same but haven't gotten there yet. I have seen several threads where Big Wolf Lodge is supposed to be a great place to stay.

We are leaving Wednesday to go there. This will be my first trip so I wondered the same thing. We have planned to spend Thursday and Friday seeing Colonial Williamsburg. Then we can drive home Saturday. We figured that if we need one more day then we can do it again on Saturday and drive home Sunday. Does that sound right? We don't plan to do Busch Gardens since we have Carowinds here and will be going to Disney World in September. We decided that we will do Busch Gardens another time. We have booked a king suite at Holiday Inn Express. I also want to know if two days is enough time to see it, too much, etc.

We stayed at Great Wolf last year. It was a lot of fun, but if we go there again we would do that for a two night stay after a few days at Williamsburg. Once in Great Wolf my kids won't want to leave.

Don't forget Jamestown and Yorktown. If you are into history these are a must.

We went this time last year and stayed for a week at a condo resort called Greensprings Plantation. It is timeshares, but they rent units as well. We had a large two bedroom two bath unit. It's close to Jamestown Settlement and not far from Colonial Williamsburg. We spent nearly every day at Colonial Williamsburg, but did some side trips, too. If you don't want to go through all the homes and businesses, and do a lot of special programs, you don't need a week, but we wanted to really experience it in-depth. Some of the evening programs (extra) included a witch trial, a pirate trial, a ghost tour, folk tales etc. We had a few meals in the historic taverns. There is a lot to see and do there if you are really into history.

We were thinking of this trip and decided our kids were too young. What ages do you think would get the most out of this trip? (ours are 9,7,5). We did Yellowstone instead, but I love history

We just went last weekend, although between Busch Gardens & Water Country, we didn't even make it to Colonial Williamsburg. Unless you count driving through to get to either of the other places. We went for 3 nights and stayed at a Fairfield Inn on Richmond Rd. Very nice, clean, tons of other hotels all around too.

I could have spent a day at the Williamsburg Pottery alone! Our car was filled with silk plants, pictures, etc.. We're even planning on going back in November.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

This may not help at all.......dd17 and I were there on 6 July2006. We stayed at the Woodland Suites (part of the "colonial williamburg preferred" places). We were only there for 1 day. Our purpose was to check out the college. We did manage to see quite a bit in just a couple of hours.......but there were no young kids to consider. If you plan to visit Jamestown and Yorktown also, you will probably need at least 4-5 days.

I think you need 4-5 days to see everything (jamestown and Yorktown included). There's a lot to do in just Colonial Williamsburg though. I'd say 3 days for that. There's a lot of buildings to tour and a lot for the kids to do. Take them to the brickmakers they love that. There's also a cool tour for the kids. I believe it's the apprentice tour. A ghost tour a night is pretty fun too.

My youngest is 5 and I know she won't be interested in most of the stuff. We have a place nearby that is similar to Williamsburg. I might try to take the kids next weekend to get an idea if they would like that type of thing.

I am taking the last two weeks of Aug. off and would like to do something, I just have no idea what yet.
