Colleges

I plan on applying for the university in my town. Im not going to be living on site so that will save me some dough.

I plan on going for my Bachelor of Arts and than maybe something in Food & Hospitality.

The Ontario system is was so annoying and long for my brother, when he was trying to apply, he almost gave up right there. It really annoyed the hell out of him.
The application process is more expensive than it is here in NB. Most people stay local for university around here.

it is REALLY long! It starts in about....november, and for me, it lasted until late may!!

Hm. This fall was supposed to be when I would start taking classes at the community college after focusing heavily on studying in the summer, but that pretty much fell through. We're probably not even going to be here much longer so I guess it's better that I didn't start any classes there, but it still sounded like a good opportunity.

I haven't thought much about college in general yet, which ones I'm interested in, majors and minors, things like that, -probably a bad idea-, but I'm going to have to start sooner or later, and will definitely need to work at studying the neccessary subjects harder. I'm not even sure where to start, but my parents seem to have an idea of what I should do. I guess I'll just go with whatever their ideas are.

And yes, college is ridiculously exspensive. That's why the community college seems like a good option, or at least a smaller local school.

After my brother applied, he didn't really hear anything until the 1st of May. But the people calling were from a internship thingy he's doing with the government.
We were afraid they'd never call because we needed to know if he was actually going to Ottawa, because we had stuff lined up here for back up, and they wanted their money right THEN.

Axel, I don't know much about your list of colleges... I've been to Ursinus, and the campus looks really nice.
But I warn you about Princeton... They are EXTREMELY hard to get into to. My friend had an 800 on the Math SAT and got 5s on all of his AP exams, and got flat out rejected from Princeton. I'm not discouraging you or saying you won't get in, but just know it is very tough.

I know how hard Princeton is to get into. But it's the one school my mom seemed happy about me choosing, so I put it on my list. But Princeton doesn't accept solely on grades, either. Most colleges won't. In the magazine I mentioned earlier, How to Get Into College 2008, there's an essay/article by an admissions officer (not at Princeton, but one of the other Ivy Leagues...can't remember which) and it mentions that they had a question on their application that was "Ask yourself a question and give us the answer" and there was one student who asked himself "Do you play the tuba" and answered "No". Normally they would have just written him off as a smart aleck, but instead he had great reference letters from his teachers. He didn't always have good grades, but he pushed his limits to learn and he was a nice kid. I'm not saying your friend isn't, but with Princeton having just about an 11% acceptance rate, you can't expect them to take every last one of the really smart kids that apply. If they did, there would hardly be need for a teacher. Also- I don't belive Princeton weighs AP exams.

But anyway, which college did he end up attending?

Just a word about those PSATs. You might get a really great score on them, but don't necessarily count on a great SAT score as well. They are MUCH easier than the actual test, and there is no essay on the PSATs. Believe me. My scores were decent on the PSATs in October (51 critical reading, 56 math, 63 writing, all higher than average). I was expecting just a longer test, plus an essay when I took SATs in June. Um, no way. It was more difficult, and I would definately advise you to prepare a lot for them. Just because you got good PSAT scores, does not mean your SATs will be that good as well.

:scared1: catholic high schools around here are free!! (minus the uniforms)

My catholic school is 11,000 a year....and always rising. :scared:

As for colleges...I want to double major in Musical Theatre and Buisness. My top school is Carnegie Melon (extremely selective for Musical Theatre). Other schools I am interested in are, Emerson, U Hart, Wagner, Pace, University of Michigen, and NYU. My safety schools (and schools that are either good in Musical Theatre OR Buisness, not neceserarly both) are, Boston Conservatory, New England Conservatory, Wheelock, North Eastern, Emmanuel, Shorter College, UMass Amherst, and UNH.

UNH is actually one of my top safety schools. Their dance program kicks but!!!

I am only a junior. I know Broadway is the obvious path for me...but I want to explore other options. I am toying around with the idea of being a producer or stage manager or talent agent (therefor I will need the Buisness degree) but I still LOVE theatre (hence the MT major).

He's going to Rutgers University now. He got into the Physics Honors program there. Although he may be switching into the Mason Gross school of Music at Rutgers because he might be changing his major... lol

My scores were roughly 92 critical reading, 87 math and 93 writing. I know the SATs are harder, too. I'm going to be taking an SAT prep class when the time comes.

not sure how you got those scores. they are on a scale of 20-80, as the SATs are 200-800. ???

Have y'all been over to collegeconfidential.com? The folks who post there are pretty Ivy-obsessed, but you can gather some pretty good information.

Sorry. I was recalling my rough percentile placement instead of my scores. Oops! My actual scores are: 59 Critical Reading, 55 Mathematics, and 58 Writing. On CR I outscored 92% in the nation, Mathematics I outscored 84%, and on Writing I outscored 92%. I don't know how I got that score on the Math part...I'm awful at it!
