College Program worries

I just applied for the Disney College Program a little while ago and just completed my phone interview on Wednesday for Spring 2010. I'm a little worried, though. All that keeps going through my mind is how many things I think I could have done better :/. My interviewer asked if I was interested in quick service food and beverage, lifeguard, or recreation, and I had said, in other words, no. I gave her my top 3 (attractions, merchandising, and hospitality) and she gave me questions about all three of those. Basically what I am asking... does it lower my chances if I had said no to those previous 3? And for those of you who have already done the program, do they only consider you for the roles you auditioned for??

May I ask how many roles you checked off total?
I don't think it can necessarily be a bad thing...the QSFB question is pretty much standard. Many say no and are still accepted! I haven't heard of being asked about the other two...maybe for some reason your interviewer was getting a vibe that it might be something you would enjoy/be good at?
But if you truly wouldn't have wanted to do any of those three roles, you can't really beat yourself up about saying no. If you got put into one of them, I'm sure you'd be disappointed about saying yes to something you didn't actually want to do...ya know what I mean?
I'm sure everything will turn out how it was meant to be :] Good luck and happy waiting! :thumbsup2
I hope this helps!

i was asked about QSFB and housekeeping I think and politely declined both and still got accepted for attractions so dont worry! and goodluck!

...the QSFB question is pretty much standard.

I was told that 1/3 of the open positions are QSFB, so they need tons of people for this role and ask everyone if they're interested. Don't worry that you said no (I did too).

As for the other two... we're you a lifeguard in the past?

No you did the right thing. If you weren't interested you shouldn't say yes, because then there's a good chance they will put you in that role. They only ask because those are some of the lest popular roles with a lot of turnaround, so they try to actively recruit for them.

You'll be fine...

Yeah you don't want to say yes to something you don't want- I did so I could sound more flexible and get accepted and I ended up getting stuck with housekeeping- I found out after the fact that, like everyone else said, those questions are basically standard so I could have said no to that lol
this time I said no haha :rotfl:

Thank you all so much. I'm getting so nervous about this. I've wanted to do this program for so long, now. But I always figure that if I don't get in this time, I can always try again. :)

Again, what the others have said is totally true. Don't apply for ANYTHING you don't want to do!

With that said, there's always a need in merchandising because there's a lot of shops at Disney, and unlike BBB, it's fairly standard retail training minus hard-core upselling. (It's okay to upsell, but thankfully Disney does NOT make you do pressure sales, nor is it hugely centered around the use of scripts--outside of entertainment that is.)

Hospitality and Attractions are a toss up as it all depends on how many people are needed, and who's been green-lighted into those roles already.

So... I got the 'your status is pending a final decision' e-mail... I know it's not a very good thing.... But is it really like the kiss of death? Are chances slim-to-none? or is it 50/50?

I think it's 50/50... :confused3
Like americangeiko was saying, it's based on how many people they need in different areas...
Sending some pixie dust your way! hope you get in! :wizard:

I think I interviewed on the same day as you (the 23rd?)

My interviewer never exactly got the chance to ask what my top three choices were... by the time she got to that question, she said "I feel like I already know what you're going to say... but what would be your ideal choice?" (it was merchandising.. lol which was clear from my interview up to that point)
We also discussed attractions quite a bit and she added that to my checklist (I have tattoos and thought that I wouldn't have a chance there, but she said it could work out)

She brought up recreation "because of my interests".. but alas, my tattoos are a problem there :)

I haven't received any kind of pending letter; just the standard "thank you for interviewing" email.

It depends on what you applied for.

I have a feeling that these 'pending' emails have to do with school requirements.

When I did my program, there was quiet a few people who got accepted, but weren't ALLOWED to do the program in the end because they went on academic probation with their school due to a drop in their grades/not raising their grades enough.

yeah, I don't think my grades are a problem :/ And along with the status pending e-mail, I got a status pending letter in the mail. I guess I'm confused because I have a clean background, good grades, and good work history.

yes, captn, I did do my phone interview on the 23rd. My interviewer just asked the standard questions. I felt like she wasn't very personable. Oh well. Good luck to you! and for the record, my top choice was merchandising also :)

well, americangeiko, my friend applied for attractions, as did I and she got her acceptance on the 1st of October and did her phone interview on the 27th of Spetember. So I'm freaking out a little :(

Your problem might honestly be your interviewer. I've had bad ones before. Your status might depend on the number of other applicants that are accepted and actually accept their role.
