Ok so my roommate just told me that she is on probation. She like me is in the College Program. She had a really bad day last week. A friend of hers took her to a Animal Kingdom in the morning to cheer her up. She was having such a horrible day that she decided to call into work for "personal reasons." She was just informed that she is on probation for having entered a park on the day that she called in. On Monday she has a meeting to determine her fate. Her manager told her that she could possibly be fired. Can anyone tell me the possibility of her actually getting kicked out the college program?

I'd say it depends on how good of an employee she is normally. If she doesn't typically annoy her managers and works hard, then she might have a chance to stay but that would probably be her one and only warning. I mean, I think it might work in her favor that she did not call in sick but I mean she did a pretty irresponsible thing.

If she were a Union Cast Member, the answer on this would be fairly clear. If she called-personal and then went into a park, while probably not the best thing to do, there wouldn't be an issue. The issue only exists if you call-sick/sick-continuing and then go into a park (do note though, that I'm applying DLR rules to this, WDW might have different regulations, though I highly doubt it). I would then recommend she speak to a Shop Steward and possibly file a grievance alledging violation of past practice.

However, since WDW College Program is specifically exempt from the contract there, she's at the mercy of management. Definitely not a good position to be in, particularly since the company has every good reason to cut labour at the moment.

The lesson for other CPers here is: be careful what you do on property, since Mickey does know everything.

she broke contract, and that's not good. CPs are completely dispensable. :sad2:

My roommate did this. She called off because she had family in town. She even took them to the ride she worked at O_O but she didn't get fired. Luckily, her manager believed that since she didnt call in sick, but personal, that she could stay. But she was the exception, not the norm. If your roomie is nice, and very apologetic, and if her boss is in a good mood, she could stay.

Hard to say. All managers are different and its really up to them. And some are just more strict then others.
When I did a CP I saw some people get termed and others who did worse who got to stay.
I could say if she is a good worker then it may be an advantage ... but one of my best friends never called in sick or personal, was only late once and by like 5 minutes cause our bus was late, always did their job right and everything and never had any other problems before he made one mistake and he got probation for a week and termed on Easter.
I know other people who called out alot and were late alot and kinda slacked alot in doing their job and made some mistakes and nothing happened

Just cross your fingers and hope she has understanding managers who arent too strict and will give her another chance.

Thank you everyone for your comments!!! I really hope she doesn't get fired. After reading your comments I have hope. I am not letting myself get too optomistic but I think hopeful is safe. I honestly dont know if she even knew that you couldn't go to a park when you called in. I guess there is nothing we can do at this point... just hope and pray... again, thank you everyone for your help!

Pixies heading her way. I just talked to one of my managers about entering a park on a day I was scheduled to work if I switched shifts with someone and he told me even that could get me termed. I decided to just go ahead and work and let hubby park hop w/ DDs that day. I do know that my manager was very specific about not being seen anywhere but an urgent care, hospital, or in bed if I called in.
