My daughter is currently a cast member on the college program. We are going down in August to visit. So my question is what is her discount on food. I do understand she has to be there for the discount but does she have to be the one paying or can we use our credit card??

The CP has to use their own credit card/cash in order to receive any CM discount - food, merchandise, hotel room. We got my DD a credit card in her name (that is tied to our credit card, so she is basically an authorized user on the account). When we went down in May, she would just pay using the card with her name on it.

There was no discount for dinner at BOG or Via Napoli. She did get a discount on merchandise and at the stores in the resorts.

I was under the impression for hotel reservations they need to use the credit card of whoever the reservation is for....

When i was on my program last summer, I used my parent's card for everything when they came to visit. Reservations made on the hub can be paid with any card. Our food was discounted when i showed my CMID, they didnt care who paid the bill.

But then again bethp1968's experience was more recent so maybe things have changed since then :confused3

Hmmm..not sure. My DD only mad a reservation for her grandparents and put the 1 night deposit one our card. Her grandparents paid the balance when they arrived.

We've used my daughter's cast member discount on room reservations many times and there has never been a problem using my credit card at check in. For meals and merchandise - yes the cast member is supposed to pay. We were in Disneyland last summer and when paying for a meal a manager happened to be standing by the register and saw my daughter going through her wallet looking for money and joked that he wouldn't have a problem if "mom" paid! But then two weeks ago at Animal Kingdom my daughter was buying a shirt and I had her cash in my purse and the cashier started giving us some attitude. I told her the cash was my daughters but she still lectured us. I didn't even hand her the money. I gave it to my daughter who handed it to her.

This isn't true. We stayed at The Grand Floridian last Christmas. My daughter got 60% off the room and when we got to the resort, she wasn't there yet, but we were able to check into our room without her. We still got the discount and used our credit card! ;)

I know they are VERY strict about their discount. My daughter was making a purchase, over $300 and was short $1.00 so when I went to give it to her, the cast member wouldn't accept it so we had to leave the store without the purchases and I gave her the money and she walked right back in to buy her purchases again. Another time, she was just buying some fruit and I went to pay for it and the cast member got really nasty and gave us a lecture that my daughter could get terminated right on the spot and my daughter got so nervous and we never did that again!:confused3

Yes, but didn't she need to give 1 nights deposit to hold the room when she booked it? My DD needed to give her CC to reserve the room that she booked for her grandparents. My DD then needed to go over to CBR and show them her work ID, so that her grandparents could check in without her being there. They then used their own Credit Card to pay the balance. ( I did mention this in a previous post).

But for food and merchandise, the CP must pay with cash or a debit/credit card in their name. That is what she was told and during our trip, we didn't even try to not have her pay. No need to risk a termination or reprimand.

Does the CM food discount include alcohol? The reason I ask is I have a TIW card which discounts 20% off food and alcohol then adds tip automatically. She will be doing some meals with her Dad only when he visits (I am an AP holder he is not) and I am able to get him a TIW spouse card - wondering if I should pay for that for the added discount on alcohol and free valet parking.

For a CM getting a room for friends - so the discount is less and they are not staying in the room --- those reservations DO NOT have to be paid in any way (not even the deposit) by the CM. My daughter has done this many many (she's been at Disney for 7 years) times. Now she does have to have the credit card info of the person she is getting the room for to make the reservation. And yes she also has to show her ID up to ten days prior to check in or fax it over.

I was reading the board and had a question for clarification. So my son can make the reservations through hub, and only have to pay deposit right, and we can pay the rest at chech in, or do I need to pay all at once. (Transferring money to him). And he does not have to physically be there with us during check in, as long as 10 days before check in he goes and shows his I.D? Is there any other time during our stay he would need to show I.D. or just check in. Thanks in advance....

Anyone's credit card can be used for the initial deposit and check-in. The only requirement is that he go to the hotel within 10 days of check-in with his ID and he does not have to be there when you check in. He will need his ID for dining discounts and merchandise discounts. Anyone can pay the dining bill but as mentioned before they are very strict about who pays for the merchandise. Has to be the CM's credit card or they have to hand over the cash. Don't take the chance of giving him the cash in the store, do it before you enter.

Thanks, I had planned to transfer money to his checking account to cover any specifics I want...
Thanks again

There are so many different situations for whose card must be used and for what.

At least from my understanding and from having friends in Disney for several years now (and now a CP myself) the rules are as follows:

Merch: Always must be paid by the CM

Quick Service: Always must be paid by the CM ( I also confirmed this with more than one manager at my QSFB location)

Full Service: Anyone can pay for the ticket as long as it is a single bill with the CM discount applied (I believe I read this on the hub)

Room discounts with cast member staying in the room (the larger discount): deposit and remaining balance must be paid by the CM (at least this is how we had to do it when using my friend's discount a year and a half ago)

Room discounts for friends and family (smaller discount): The deposit and remaining balance does not have to be paid by the CM. The CM just has to go and show their ID within 10 days of check in.

Alcohol: CMs do not receive a discount on alcoholic beverages anywhere on property to the best of my knowledge.

All of this information is accurate to the best of my knowledge and I hope it helps!! :)
