Just curious...is anyone planning for college yet? What colleges are you thinking about and considering and what degrees are you interested in? Also, could someone please give me some information about a good school that offers degrees in theatre arts?

Is anyone else wanting to do the college program? What roles?

Basically, we can discuss any and all planning for college. I just feel so out of place over on the college board and this isn't really for people IN college but people PLANNING for college.

So have fun!!

I got my fourth acceptance letter yesterday from Rollins College, but I'm still leaning more towards Florida Southern since I like their campus atmosphere better. I also qualify for their full ride, so it just makes sense...

I'm also planning on convincing some friends who are going to other schools that we need to do a summer term of the DCP together. I'd probably just work attractions or something else that isn't entertainment.

I'm only a freshman in high school, but I pretty much already know what I want to do. I want to become a pharmacist, and the colleges I want to go to are Saint Louis College of Pharmacy, or University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy. It's a 6 year program and you get a PharmD. I'm also looking at others too....
As for the DCP i'm not quite sure I want to do it.

Well I'll be a Junior in high school next year and I really want to go to UNC Wilmington or UNC Charlotte (preferably Wilmington). I've more or less decided I want to major in education, but I'm not entirely sure- I'd either like to be an elementary school teacher or a high school English teacher. Oh, and if I can persuade my friends to do the DCP, then I defiantly am interested in that.

I'm going to be a Junior next year in school and my father is already telling me that we'll be visiting colleges during the year. I don't know what college I want to go to yet. There's too many near me like Penn State. I was thinking of going to community college first before I go to a 4 year college. I know I want to become either a cartoonist or a job in computer design and I want to do DCP.

I am really wanting to pursue a degree in Performing Arts and Musical Theatre. I wanna do Broadway. :woohoo: So, I think that the DCP will really benefit me in whatever route I take honestly. If I do attractions-I really want to do Kilimanjaro, Jungle Cruise, or Movie Ride- that would develop my social, presentational, and people skills. And if I do entertainment-well, that's a given. Hello! It's ENTERTAINMENT! I really have my eye on UCF right now, too.

I'm in 8th grade, and have kind of an idea of what I want to do. I want to go to college for something with math, consdering it's my strongest subject. And although I really want to go to a college out of state, I'll probably end up going to my local college, which is actually quite nice.
And as for the DCP, I'm not sure, but I would definitely consider it.

I'm a HS sophomore, but I've been thinking about college a lot lately. I want to go into medicine, so I'm looking at schools with strong science programs. My absolute dream school is Johns Hopkins, but sadly that's a longshot for me :/

I definitely want to do DCP, even though I've heard it's basically slave labor, but I don't mind :) I wanna do attractions or merchandise

I am going to major in Musical Theatre myself. I am really looking at Ouachita Baptist University, but I have gotten so many college letters, so theres definitely a lot of interest. I will go wherever I can get a full ride with a Great Theatre Program. :) My top choices are Character Performer, Fairy Godmother in Training, Attractions (Like you said, one of the scripted attractives... Especially the Movie Ride) and Character Attendant. I plan on doing the College Program Fall of 2015!

Junior in high school here and just visited my first college on Saturday, which is coincidentally my top choice. It was amazing, honestly. Completely perfect.

I'm going to major in chemistry or biochemistry. If I end up majoring in chemistry (since biochem isn't offered at my top choice) I would just take a concentration in biochem and then go to grad school for it, since I'm going to grad school right after my undergrad (finances permitting, of course. But with the research opportunities this school provides...scholarships won't be a problem WOO!)

The school I'm visiting in about a month has a major in biochemistry, but it's going to be my safe school. I have a reach school that I'm going to visit in the summer, but unless I can get some amazing scholarships/financial aid package...that won't work out haha!

To narrow my choices, I basically made a list of what I absolutely needed out of the college experience. One of the factors was a small(er) college and the other was that it was relatively near to where I live/in the northeast. And that led me to the three schools I'm seriously considering now (:

Hiya

I'm a junior in highschool and I have my first college visit this weekend I'm so pumped :D I want to go into international studies/business/law so I'm really interested in doing the CP to work for disney. By doing IStudies I can go into either business or law but I'm leaning towards business. I ultimately want to work for disney and travel to china and europe :D

I'm only really considering in state because I don't have a strong enough GPA for full ride scholarships and I don't want to be poor :P I'm visiting Georgia Southern University this weekend and they have a great program, but I also like Georgia State University and University of West Georgia. The only thing is that Auburn is always in my hindsight just begging for me to consider it x.x

As for what I'd want to do in the CP I want to be entertainment of course! I considered minoring in musical theatre so I'd love to do that. Other wise I'll try for Concierge or merchandising, or even life guard. I plan on doing it the fall advantage of my Junior year of college.

I hope whatever school I go to provides credits for the CP, thats one of the questions I have for this weekend because I feel like its important to me so it should be somewhat of a factor. But honestly it doesn't hold a ton of weight, like if it was between two colleges and one offered it I'd go with that one.

And about the schools with Theatre Arts, what area of the country are you looking at? Elon is really good, but so is DePaul, BU is okay but so is Point Park, all depends on what your looking for :)

My top-choice college is offering me almost complete financial coverage based on FAFSA. I could cry.

The only thing is that Auburn is always in my hindsight just begging for me to consider it x.x

It never hurts to apply. Especially if they offer a limited application fee waiver. :goodvibes

Also, to those who plan on relying on full rides: It. Is. Competitive.

I applied for the full ride scholarship at my top-choice school and the finalists are supposed to be notified this week. There was an issue with getting my materials turned in, so I'm not even sure if I'm in the running at all. Don't expect anything to be handed to you.

I'm looking for a musical Theatre school anywhere in the South, because I can't stand the cold :)

^ I'm not relying on getting a full ride, it definitely depends on where I go. The school that I am highly considering going to doesn't have competitive full rides, Just really high GPA and ACT score standards.... I meet both, so I know I can get it as long as I keep on track.

I'm actually from Southeast Texas, but for me...it doesn't really matter too much location. Not at this point anyways. Like I said...I would love to go to University of Central Florida because 1) Their campus is amazing (Yes...I am very materialistic haha) 2) Great musical theatre school 3) SO CLOSE TO DISNEY YOU COULD ALMOST WALK THERE!!...not literally...but still 4) Ranked one of the top schools in the nation

TSU (Texas State University) and Texas Tech both have pretty nice mus. the. departments. (: Although, I'm a Texan so I guess I'm a bit biased. I have considered them myself actually.

Just recommending to take a look at The College Board we have on the DIS, http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=90 Everyone over there will be more than happy to help answer any of your questions :)

Hey I'm a high school senior. 74 days until graduation (but whose counting:rolleyes1). I've made my descion about college which is a state school but I love the campus so I don't really mind not going to my dream school. My major is collabartive major in both general elementary education and special education. I love working with kids so I can't wait to start school. I would love to do the DCP but i don't know if I will be able to because my major will be so much work :confused3 But if I could I would love to be one of the character in costume (not one of princesses) and I'd love to be the character that walk in the parade. But that probs wouldn't happen because they normally look for preforming arts majors so instead I would love to work in any posistion where I get to interact with people.

I have looked over there and asked a few questions and I get great helpful answers, but I was just wanting some feedback for people who are more in the "daydream/plan process." :goodvibes Thanks, though!

Nice major! I just don't think I have the patience to work with kids. Haha. I look at how teachers probably view me and can't imagine what it must be like to deal with hundreds of..."me"s. Yeesh. :lmao: I am wanting to do character performer too. But I would WANT to be one of the princesses.

I am (like I mentioned before) definitely wanting to do something in the performing arts field (musical theater mainly), so do you think this would give me an advantage at the DCP being a character? I know that you have to audition and they see if you have the Disney Look and attitude and everything...but if it came down to two people equally qualified...would they choose the one going for the perf. arts degree?

Anyone have any ideas on this?

That's what i've been told in the past but I'm not 100% sure
