I read that to be a Personal Travel Consultant some travel agents take courses at the travel agents' College of Disney Knowledge. Does anyone know about this? How long are the courses? Just curious for the future.
Hiya! It a really in-depth course of WDW ... resort/transportation/parks/etc. Pretty much anything Disney wants you to know about WDW. (Saying that, I tend to learn the neatest things here ... I taught my sales rep about 1st haurcut on Main St and also the Veteran of the Day at MK (gets to help with flag ceremony) It is a self-paced course, so there is not a particular length of time.
The cool thing is once you graduate, sometimes you get invited to a conference at WDW (hence one of my tags ... backdoored to Epcot) where they treat you REALLY special and you learn and experience all kind of things. Oh, and you also get certificate/pin/and set of ears with graduate cap on top.
My mom took that course, and even when to the graduate school thing at Disney for all the special stuff, when she was doing Disney travel. She LOVED it!!!! She was a travel agent at the time (has since given up her memberships and travel business to work for the Mouse). =)
Of doing of too. There is a website that you can get all the info on but you have to have a Travel Agency I.D to enter. I read it just now...it is 4 nights and 5 days and costs $275. That includes the course and accomodation at a Disney Resort. It is only available to Travel Agents.
Must be something different as it isn't mentioned on their website for Travel Agents at all. They only offer a course they call 'College of Disney Knowledge..Graduate Progam' and 'College of Disney Knowledge ...Masters Program'
Both are 4 nights/5 days...$275
Include Sales/Marketing Strategies...either WDW Resort tours (or Disneyland..depending where you go) Interactice Technology training, a Disney Cruise Line ship inspection and tour etc etc....You must complete the Graduate course before enrolling in the Masters course.
I cannot see any info on a 'free do it at home' course. Sorry...
There is a manual course that you can do at home...takes 16-20 hours. You still need to bge a Travel Agent but perhaps this is the other one? It counts towards CTA certification...

Yes, that is the one they are referring to. You do need to be a TA in order to take the online course. Actually, they send you the book to read and then you take the tests online. You need at least an 80% to go onto the next test. 5 chapter tests and 1 final exam.
The College of Disney Knowledge is an in-depth comprehensive correspondence course offered to U.S., Canadian and Puerto Rican travel agents and wholesale reservationists who are affiliated with ARC, CLIA or IATA. The course allows Travel Agents to develop our expertise about the Disney destinations, including the Disneyland® Resort, Walt Disney World® Resort, Disney Cruise Line® and other Disney vacations like Disney's Vero Beach Resort on Florida's Atlantic coast and Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort in South Carolina.
