College backpacks

My daughter and son will be starting college in august . I need suggestions for backpacks, preferably waterproof. Thanks!!!!

I just went back to school and I bought a North Face Surge II and this thing is amazing. It also has a lifetime warranty, which I like. It was pretty expensive, however.

I am currently in college and a good Jansport does great for me. Sturdy, pretty water resistant, and lightweight.

If your daughter likes Vera Bradley their Lighten Up Large backpack is pretty water resistant. And holds a ton of stuff (They just came out with a Grande and Just Right version - I'm not sure how the difference between Large / Medium / Grande / Just Right). I got it this past christmas (I'm heading into my last year) and nothing ever got wet, and I am ALWAYS afraid my graphing calculator will.

I bought a Columbia backpack for my first year. The one I bought had a laptop sleeve and lots of pockets for different types of storage. It worked really well and has a lifetime guarantee. It wasn't cheap, but was more affordable than some of the other high-quality backpacks out there I'd looked at previously.
