Collecting pins but not trading.

I'm thinking about collecting pins but I'm not very interested in going through the trouble of finding pins I like and then trading them. Plus I don't want to be bothered with carrying them in the parks and worrying about losing any. Are there people who only collect and don't trade? Maybe I could see doing it if I buy sets and there are pins in the set I don't want. I plan to just buy pins that have special meaning for me to remember something that happened on our trips and stuff like that. Just wondering if I'd be the only one out there not trading the pins.

Hi, I Got my first few pins last year on my honeymoon and came back to the uk with all the intentions of trading next time i went. I was a little naieve (sp?) and brought half a dozen from ebay which i think are scrappers , so i decided that trying to trade or buy pins in the UK is too hard, so now i will only buy pretty pins and ones that mean stuff to me like my Mickey and Minnie in a wedding ring one , which is for our Marriage !

I am not now and have never been an active "pin trader". I only look for pins I want to keep. I do not trade just for the purpose of trading.

I have a lot of high quality trading pins, but they are only used when I see a pin I want to keep that will fit in my collection.

I buy Stitch pins for my board - never to trade!! Also special event pins if I like them or the Genie which is extremely rare these days. If I see a CM with a pin I need my daughter will trade and I buy her a new one to replace. Talk about wheeling and dealing with a teenager!

Plenty of people collect and don't trade. However, I feel it is important to point out, as a trader, I don't find pins I like and then trade them away. I buy pins I don't like to trade away for pins I do like. LOL Does that make sense? A lot of times I simply buy pins I like to keep, but a lot of times I'll see a pin on a CM lanyard that I love so I trade for it. I don't trade pins that I intend to keep.

I agree. I have pics that I keep and I don't bring them to WDW. I have never traded, but just incase one of my pins that I am missing does happen to apprear somewhere. I do have extras that I have gotten mistakenly that I will keep on hand to do a hopeful trade. Alot of people trade to trade and there is no point I think. Im sure buying to keep is a great way to go about doing things and it's exactly how I do it.

I've only ever been a collector, and have about 130 pins, most of which have special meaning for me, like the 25th Anniversary of Epcot on Oct 1, 2007, my first passholder pin in 2006, Laugh Floor Comedy Club opening day in 2007, 13th Anniversary of Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (LE 1300), the 2 Haunted Mansion "Re-Haunting" pins in 2007, 10th Anniversary of Animal Kingdom, Bay Lake Tower DVC pin (LE 300), and many of the Disney Visa Card pins between 2006 and 2008.

I have extras of many of the pins in my collection, but instead of trading I just resell them at cost.

Wot are "scrappers" i've just bought a batch of 25 pins from ebay to start a collection for my little girl to potentially trade, but i'd be embarressed it when we got to trade, they were not for trading, although they all have got "pin trading" on the back of them.

Me (40), Dad (61), Daughter (11) all collect pins and don't trade and no my hubby is thinking of doing it.

There are plenty of people who collect but never go to WDW or DL to actually trade them ... enjoy

Scrappers are pins that are not authorized by Disney and are sold on the secondary market. They are not as good a quality and many times will have defects, which is why they did not pass the Disney quality control. These are available on eBay at very cheap prices, we have a thread on the board dedicated to eBay and buying pins, please check it out!

I too am also someone who only buys pins and never trades them. My fiance and I started to buy them back in December and we do wear lanyards with normal editions of certain themes, such as her having a lot of Stitch pins and I have started up a Star Wars collection, as well as some that are special to us like the hotels we have stayed at or favorite attractions.

We also buy special ones likes Limited Edition/Release, AP holder and D23 pins but we keep those at home in our pin album.

I have never traded my pins before,I like to keep them but I am thinking of trading some of my Princess ones for Pooh and Stitch ones. Because I have so many Princess ones from when I was younger.

I generally buy pins that I like and want to keep. I have however bought booster sets and kept ones I liked and traded ones I didn't care for. It's a personal preference I guess. I do intend the next time I'm at Disney to pick up some pins (probably LE) for trading for some hard to get pins that I really want. Sometimes trading is the only way to get a pin that you really want.

I collect pins. For the most part I do not trade. I like knowing what I have. I also get mostly limited editions so those are harder to find tradewise. I have a large collection now and have branched out to National Park pins.

I have to echo the others that collect and keep. No trading for me.
I actually have a small-ish backpack that carry when traveling that has a see through front pocket. I attach my pins inside the pocket so they're visible, but I don't worry if they fall off since they simply fall in the pocket!
My collection may appear eclectic to others - but the pins all have a special meaning to me.

Since I've been only going to Disney about every other year, I've been trying to buy a lanyard each trip and purchase pins that mean something special about the trip. I do have a special Christmas lanyard and a Tinkerbelle lanyard. I did buy some pins from Ebay to trade on our trip in December.

I was in DLR last week, the majority of pins I got from CM's were not scrappers, they were real.
