Strange question but my daughter has POTS and being able to make a hotel room very very cold is crucial. She recently stayed at the Hilton Universal hotel in LA and could not get the room cold enough to be able to sleep/function/recover

Any hotels you have stayed at with amazingly cold AC?

Any experience with cold rooms at the Grand Californian? We are planning to go in January for cooler weather but she just can't regulate her temperature and needs an ice cold room to sleep and recover in.

I had issues with the room being too warm at the Grand Californian. I was pregnant and it was uncomfortably warm. I asked them to send maintenance to look at the AC while they were out. Maintenance reported the AC was working fine and told me the ACs sense motion and turn off when no one is in the room. But the room also never cooled down to a comfortable level when we were in it. I had no issues at the Disneyland Hotel with the room cooling down and staying cold at night.

Avoid DLR hotels, as mentioned above, they turn off when not in the room. We were there during a heat wave, and our room was never cold. We always get super cold AC at Tropicana and Camelot hotels.

I was going to suggest calling hotels/motels on Harbor and asking if the have the under-window style AC units. Then, you can manually put it on and not worry about a 'smart' thermometer turning off when its still to warm for you daughter.

I haven't experienced that problem at DLH or GC. I close the curtains and set the AC low when I leave the room and it's cool to me when I return. Wherever you stay, your room should stay cooler if it faces N or NE away from afternoon sun. That's something you could note on the reservation and then call a day in advance when room assignments are finalized to reiterate your need.

The lowest setting on DLR rooms is 66. It will go that low, but as mentioned at night they shut off if you don't get up and walk around a few times. It never felt as cold as my home does and we keep our room at 68 at night.

I've never stayed in a hotel that was cold enough for me, personally, and I don't have a medical condition that requires it.

OK, there is a work around to the AC/heater failing to come on without movement.

Press the Power Button and the Blue Down button at the same time. The letters bp will come on the screen. Set the temp to what you want and for 24 hours, the motion detector is over ridden.

There are a few thermostats this doesn't work on at the DLR (and WDW), and for those, you press and hold down the C/F switch til the bp comes on the screen (4-6 seconds), turn it back to F, adn set the temp....

We did that last time, but it still was not cool enough. For the money we pay for rooms at their resorts, they need to give us better control of the AC. :)

With doing that was the room like super cold? Some places just have better ACs then others.

How low did you set it? How low do you set your AC at home? My daughter and son generally set their areas in the hotel at 65 or 66. My room is usually at 68 or 69.

I've seen a hack to get around the motion sensor issue-- buy a Mickey Balloon when you get to the hotel. Place it a foot or two in front of the sensor. Add it bounced around, the sensor will continue to get triggered.

Not a Disney resort but I recall Park Vue Inn (across the street) having ICY cold AC

We’ve been on the 6th floor this week at GCH on the Napa Rose side and the AC has been AMAZING. It’s been hot and that sucker works. We’ve had it set on 65 degrees and blowing cold air. Slept great. FWTW.

That doesn't work. It's an infrared sensor. A balloon at night won't trigger it.
