My DD has been getting cold sores inside her mouth frequently for the past month. She has her Dr well visit, and dental appts next week, but is there any home remedies anyone can suggest to ease the pain/help them heal faster.

My DS frequently gets cold sores and the only thing we have found works is Lysine topical ointment and Lysine supplements. They are sometimes gone within a couple of days.

I just re-read your post and see that they are inside her mouth. Are you sure they are cold sores and not canker sores which can be caused by a low level of vitamin C. In which case I second the salt water gargle.

Peroxil is a form of hydrogen peroxide that you can use in your mouth. I have used a lot after having dental surgery. It should help with the sores inside the mouth.

I used Lysine supplements and it helped them go away faster. I seem to go through spells where I'll get a couple of canker sores then not have any for months.

Mix equal parts Milk of Magnesia and Benedryl. Swab the sores. This should help:hug:.

Have her start taking lysine supplements regularly. This works amazingly for me to prevent canker sores. I also have to avoid salty and acidic foods and beverages.

My DS has canker sores from time to time...so annoying. He started taking the L-Lysine (500mg) supplements daily....never has them anymore at all. :goodvibes

If it's a canker sore you can take a vitamen E capsule, poke a hole in the end and squeeze some of the liquid onto the sore. I've used that method for years.

My Nana used to put milk of magnesia on them.

When my aunt took chemo she would get sores inside her mouth. The hospital had her rinse her mouth with Milk of Magnesia and then spit it out.

I think she had to wait about half an hour to drink something, but it helped.

Please please switch to a baking soda toothpaste. I used to get 2-3 a month, I switched to Arm & Hammer toothpaste 10 years ago and I haven't had but a few over the last decade and I can usually head them off by brushing a couple of extra times if I feel one coming .... The baking soda neutralizes the mouth environment. My father suffered for 60 years until I told him to switch toothpaste and he never had another sore.

I've noticed that if I stop drinking any sort of carbonated beverage when I get one, they clear up much faster. I've always used campho-phenique but be warned, it tastes really bad.

If they are recurring, it could be a food allergy that's causing them. I had a bad canker breakout, when I was little, and it turned out I was allergic to cherries!! Bummer, I love cherries! LOL!

Ditto on the warm salt water rinse!
